AMPS=260 *new food*
Shot 1.0U

Got to be the new food. DAVE's - Naturally Healthy Grain Free Turkey & Giblets. Dr. Lisa's site says 4% carb and Tanya's says 5%. He likes it and I am going to stick with it. I increased to 1.0U.

I really don't think that a 1% carb increase should push him this high but I have no other explanation. If it truly is the food than he isn't getting any better and I need to increase anyway. I want/need to have more than 2 foods that I know he will eat and that are good for him so, I guess, it is what it is.

Happy Caturday.

I hope the increase helps keeps Gizmo is better numbers. Sometimes it is so hard to figure out what is going on with them. :bighug:

Go Astros. That was an exciting game last night.

Thanks Carla. Do you think that the 1% carb increase would/should have this much impact? Could it just be the food change regardless to the carb count? He really likes it - finishing his meals/snacks in record time. :D

He was on 0.75U for 8 cycles so I felt ok about increasing. He is feeling so good. He is happy, playful, purry and has a great appetite. I might be worried about the higher numbers if something physical seemed "off" but it doesn't. In fact, I would have to say he hasn't felt this good in a very long time. He hasn't even had any Canna all week (though I may give him a bit today for his arthritis due to the colder weather), so other than the MMR and AVJ that he gets AM/PM he is just getting his food and insulin. It is so wonderful to see him in this condition. He even has the mischievous look back in his eyes.:cat::joyful: His coat is so soft and shinny (I would guess the AVJ?). Regular LB deposits (every other day) which are solid but moist.

I made it to the 5th inning. I had to force myself to get to bed. 4am comes very early (as you know) :)

I think different food effects each cat in different ways. Some are more sensitive to carb % changes than others. There are some cats that if they have too low a carb %, their numbers are higher. You have to find the balance that works for Gizmo. How he feels is the most important thing. It's great to hear he is feeling so good.

I can never stay up and watch all of the games either. The 5th inning was when I went to sleep too. I wish they started earlier.

Yes great to hear Gizmo is feeling so good!! I think anything is possible with these kitties, wouldn’t be surprised that 1% could make a difference. However I would stick with it if he loves it and is acting the way he is. His body can very well adjust to that small carb increase, I think anyway :)

Not likely. 1% carb is probably well within the margin of error between batches at the manufacturing plant. Good luck with the increase. Sometimes pancreases just get tired and need a little more help.

Thank you. That makes me feel better. Sure wish his pancreas would quit sputtering and run a bit more consistently

Was thinking of you all while we watched the Astros last night !!!! World Series baseball is THE BEST !!!! Praying success over Gizmo this weekend :)

Yum's creatinine is lower than Gizmo's, but her phosphorus is much higher, even though she is getting 400mg+ of AL(OH)3 phosphorus binder a day. She doesn't like the soulistic pate. Yesterday I started mixing it with the high phosphorus fancy feast, 1:3. The radcat raw lamb (available at Natural Pawz) is about 100mg phosphorus per 100 kcal. I'm going to increase that relative to the fancy feast as well. My vet thinks I should give up on remission and feed her high carb prescription kidney food, but I'm not ready to do that. I will check out this latest food you are trying. What are MMR and AVJ? Glad to read Gizmo is doing so well. The colder weather has Yum sleeping and snuggling more.

Marshmallow Root and Aloe Vera Juice (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00014EB6O/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20)

You can look on my SS on the "Food" tab. I have it listed with the phos level, carb (etc). You can bring the Phos level down (I did with managing the food) but it isn't fast and finding low phos and low carb food is a nightmare! The Organix is crossed off because it upset his tummy and after a couple of feeding he wouldn't eat it but ECID!

LOL - it makes Gizmo frisky! He is loving it, especially the open windows.

Now Yum won't eat her raw lamb. She only wants the phosphorus bomb Fancy Feast. The Organix carb number on the charts looks suspicious to me. When I add up the guaranteed analysis numbers, 5% is left over. I think that is carbs. And how can it be low carb with peas and flaxseed and carrots and alfalfa meal. I might have to try it again, although she refused it in the past. The food wars are so frustrating for both of us. She doesn't understand why I am trying to feed her yucky food.

Yum doesn't like the Organix. @Julia & Bandit posted the new wellness food chart in the Health forum on June 28. The Wellness Core Beef Venison and Lamb looks promising, at 5% carbs and 171 mg phosphorus per 100 kcal.
