Good day all,

Hope your kities ate doing well:cat:.

I took meme today to the vet to see why she is not eating.

Will she said she feel little nausea but the vomitting and diarrhea that she did not like.

She did a physical test to see if it is pancreatitis but it is not her first susbicion, because she feels no pain but she said it could be very mild and this is hard to disgnouse even with blood test and if it has it, it might this is what cause her diabetes.

Also she said it could be a bowel inflammation but also no physical sign for that, she said that she looks fine over all and hope it is just an infection.

For cautious shegave her fluid under skin because she was little dehydrated and some appetite simulator and anti nausea and some shot for panceriatitis in case.

She told me to give her until tomorrow and if she does mot eat then a blood work and x ray is a must.

Once we arrived home she was starving and looking for food and hope it is mot because of the medicine only :(

She ate for now which make me little happy and her BG drop back to 90 because it was 119 before vet visit.

The vet told me even if the insulin was hight tonight not to give her insulin until she feels good.

By tomorrow if she starts eating will and her BG was very good should i back to insulin as support because i am afraid that she did not had enough insulin yet even if she is in remission!!

Any advice??

There is a blood test for pancreatitis. Don’t get the in house one though as it only shows positive or negative and not borderline. Max had chronic pancreatitis for years and never showed pain when examined, even when his score was over 50! Cats hide pain really well. You want the SpecfPL test.

Nausea and vomiting can be a vicious cycle, the less they eat, the more dehydrated they get and the more nauseous they become. It's probably the meds making her want to eat right now, but usually that's enough to kick start them back to eating because they are hydrated and feeling good when they eat, so they keep doing it on their own.

Hope this was just what she needed and she will be back to herself soon. Sorry, can't give any dosing advice. Glad your vet is in top of everything.

No she did not give me any home test she give het some shot i think for that. I read that very mild panceriatitis is very hard to diagnouse just as she told me but i do not know.

Is mild one a serious condition??

Because i was wondering why she had nausea again when her BG is just more than fine.

Ok is it treatable or no?? Is pancreatitis can be treated ?

Should i go back soon and ask for full blood work again?

Definitely sounds like the nausea was what was keeping her from eating-- I'm glad the meds they gave her seemed to work! As toebeans says above, sometimes just getting them to start eating again can break the cycle and get them back on track. Hoping that is what is going to happen with MeMe!

As for pancreatitis, the symptoms are treatable, but it is a chronic condition. It will flare up occasionally, how often and how bad depends on the cat. My own kitty had a few pretty severe flares in the first several months after her diabetes diagnosis, but only one minor one since she went into remission over a year ago. Other cats will be constantly fighting off flares, it just really varies a lot.

I think I would hold off on the pancreatitis test unless she stops eating again or shows some other signs. Because there's no cure, really the only advantage to knowing if you have a pancreatitis kitty is just to be on your guard so that you can treat the symptoms aggressively. The treatments are fluids, anti-nausea meds, and pain meds, so she's had at least the first two and maybe the shot she got was for pain? So if that is the problem, she should be in good shape for a while.

Did they give you any anti-nausea meds to use at home? Sometimes one dose is enough to get them eating again and then they start to feel better (especially when, like MeMe, they still seemed to be feeling good even when they weren't eating), but sometimes they need a little more help. Hoping you guys don't have to go back to the vet, but if she stops eating again and you have to go back for the bloodwork and x-rays, additional anti-nausea meds are something to ask about, along with the SpecfPL test.

Let's just wait and see on the insulin. Don't stress too much about wanting to keep her on as long as possible, sometimes the cat just has other ideas :cat:. She's really really close, no matter what, and when there is something else going on health-wise, the rule is to treat that other thing and dose insulin around it.

Last time i asked the vet if she can give me something for nausea to use at home but she said they use shot only but it sting and she could give me if i am able to shot her but she did not offer other med.

Today she gave some tablets but i think that it is antibiotics for her stomach.

Ok now you suggest that i continue with no insulin trail or go back to insulin whenever she feels ok??

Let's see how MeMe feels in the next couple of days. If it seems like she's back to normal on her eating, I think you could re-start the insulin, but if you are unsure you could hold off. If you end up skipping a lot of shots and she keeps with her great numbers, we could start the clock on an OTJ trial, but I don't think we're at that decision point yet.

I'm glad she got some antibiotics. If the trouble is caused by an infection of some kind, that should clear it up.

Ok noticed, will see for a couple of days. If i see her feeling much better by tomorrow i will back to insulin the day next

I agree with Nan. Sometimes if a mild case it clears up on its own quickly and no support is needed. Max would become nauseous but I didn’t realize at first. I thought he was just being picky. I used ondansetron and sometimes cerenia. If the pancreatitis is gone and not active the test will be useless. Should he stop eating again I’d get the test. There are other intestinal issues that can cause inappetence but pancreatitis has a test to narrow it done. I hope he’s better and no further tests are needed.
