Regarding a civvie..what are signs of pancreatitis

http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...e-weight-loss-since-stopping-dry-food.184874/My civvie that I asked about a few days ago because of him losing weight since I stopped dry, is not acting too good I'm going to make an appointment at the vet but for now I'd like to know what to look for because I do remember reading somewhere about jaundice and thinking to myself he will how would you see that on the first well around his eyes looked kind of yellow on the fur instead of whitish I don't know it could be my imagination too. But he isn't eating a whole lot, there's times he's not acting himself, like he'll lay under the bed but if I go over and talk to me comes right out walks around plays with his toys I don't know what to think

If he's not eating it very well could be fatty liver.... I would take him in as soon as possible. When Zim had pancratitis he was Lethargic and eating much less then usual. Dropped a lb in a few days. Put him on cerenia for nausea, daily sub q's for 10 days, and pain meds for a few days. Fortunately once starting treatment he started eating normally in his own (we caught it early). Other cats need to have assisted feeding.

He is eating..better than I had thought. He's just really really skinny anymore I mean I can feel his hip bones and his backbone his face is small anymore then what used to be. This morning he I don't want to say threw up but he spit up a dime-sized bit, it was just liquid. Then he acted like he was going to throw up again but nothing came out. I am going to take him tomorrow to see the vet. I had him there last month because he had I guess an impacted anal gland. And that was probably due to being off the dry food his stools were not hard enough to express the anal glands. I'm kind of having second thoughts about this because they don't seem to be going to the bathroom the right way I'm just not sure

When was the last time he had a full blood panel run? If it's been more than 6 months, I'd get that done.

Spitting up just liquid usually means an empty tummy and/or too much stomach acid - generally the response is to give Famotidine (Pepcid). Cats with kidney disease do this a lot, so pay attention to his Creatinine levels when/if you get bloodwork.

Here is a wonderful post Marje did with just about everything you need to know about Pancreatitis. Have a look at it and see if anything sounds familiar.

Do you weigh him regularly? If not, I'd recommend you start - with both kitties. Weight loss is often a sign of a problem. Many here use a baby scale. This is the one I use (I also use it for weighing packages I'm going to mail). It's pricey, but I found the most good reviews for it. But you can also just weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding him.

Have them run a complete blood panel. I agree look at kidneys. If he's eating and still losing weight have them check the thyroid too. Let us know how the appointment goes.

Well Facey never had any blood work done. Lsst month when I took him for the anal gland problem was his first vet appointment since I've had him, other than when he was a kitten. I just called them they can't see me till Monday and they said yes theyll have to do a blood panel

Okay all of the above apply. However he will eat tuna his treat or I know if I put dry down he'd eat it, but I'm not doing that. Since I cannot get to the vet until Monday 6 p.m. is there anything I can do for him in the meantime

Eating dry is better then nothing if that's all he will eat. Will he eat ff flaked tuna? That's under 10 carb....

Often before diabetes Max would eat a little dry when his pancreatitis was active. Eating at least half and 3/4 of normal is really important to avoid chance of fatty liver. Get him to eat small amounts often. He's nauseous do cerenia or indansetron would really help if you can get some. You might need to syringe feed.

I just fed him Friskies turkey and giblets. He ate pretty darn good. Now, earlier he was playing with his toys like normal. However, after he eats, he lays meatloaf style under the bed. I know something is wrong I just don't know how to keep him comfortable until Mondays appt.

He is eating and just now it pretty darn good but my question is could going off dry even though I wean them slowly cause this problem? If in fact it is this problem. I know it's something because he's not acting like himself.. the laying under the bed worries me

You know what that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm just not sure and the three cats it's hard to keep track, but I'm not sure if he's pooping. I know that since I stopped at dry their stools have decreased in size they don't stink and they're not as often. I'm just trying to figure out when he started this hiding under the bed stuff. I'm thinking like the beginning of the week he was sleeping on a chair like usual looking out the window I don't know exactly what day and I'm trying to determine that so that I might figure out what he might have a did he get into something I mean you never know

Thank you for the info. He is eating and I add water to each of their meals. His poops have always been smaller than the others and thin. Although I keep watch on the box and unless he's going at night when I'm sleeping I haven't seen him go so Monday we have our appointment and I'm just going to keep him eating. Another question is human tuna in the chunk light variety okay to give them

Read the ingredients. If it says anything about vegetables, don't, because that could include onions, which are bad for cats. Only a few brands package tuna in water with no vegetable broth, and they usually aren't at your average grocery store.

Wow no kidding! I did not know that amazing isn't it I don't know what I'd do without this site..he is eating, just as an update.. although this last meal I gave him, he ate very little and then went under the bed but he seems more alert

Okay so he's eating like every hour and a half and although I free feed, mr. Particular here only wants to eat when you put new food down..lol. so I came up with and idea because one of the girls here said about chunk light tuna having vegetable broth and I'll be darned it sure did! So I scratch that idea and I crushed up 4 or 5 Temptations treats and added a little water to his food and man he went to town LOL

He lost a lot of weight before we had it all figured out - which was pancreatitis/IBD - don't know what came first (chicken/egg). He had a really good appetite at first which kind of threw us of the scent I think, didn't know he was really that sick and then misleading us down the diagnosis garden path.

Well he did spit up a dime size brownish liquid on Friday. But that was it. I'm just concerned with the possibility of blocking..either way. I'm just not sure what to think bc he's eating and other than laying under the bed, gives no indication that he may be in any sort of pain. Being aware that cats can hide pain, I can not see any hint of anything bothering him..oooh what a day
