Wow Jimmy look at all that green! So sorry about his tushy:(

Healing tushy vines to Jimmy vibes.gif

Hi Susan! Nice cycle! What's going on with the bum? Is he having diarrhea too?

Good luck with the reduction.
He hadn't gone in 5 days - so I brought him. She pulled one hard poop out and then I wanted an x-ray >>resulted in an enema. He had some solid poops up there. So he was continuing to leak the rest of the day - and continued to have loose stools last night. It was loose this morning as well - with the beginning signs of some formation. I asked them to shave him after the x-ray and before the enema (thank god)...but now he's matted up down there. Tonight's "plan" >>muzzle him and put him in a burrito and with warm water attempt to get the matted poo off. *sigh*

But yea, great BG day for sure. Lowest ever. Wondering two things: has his chronic constipation been keeping his BG up? 2) Could his tumour be slowing up? OR Both? I'll never know - but she said he may have the beginnings of mega colon. So I'm continuing with the cisapride, the lactulose and the CBD. Tomorrow I start a prebiotic that has helped decreased the size of stools with other mega colons. I hate the thought of Miralax as it destroys the gut flora. At least the lactulose has some healing properties. I've also upped the amount of water I add to his food and give him some tuna water mixed with regular water to lap up after eating his meals. Hoping we can avoid another enema - althought, I have to say, he was a good boy and didn't make a peep while she was doing it. I was in the room while she did the extraction...while it must not have been pleasant - he must have known it was was already relieving the pressure. Or so I'd like to think. o_O

X-ray also revealed no arthritis or inflammation which I was thrilled about and at least now we have a baseline going forward.

Here's yesterday's thread, http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...s-297-3-pre-vet-trip-266-10-101-11-70.184871/

Sorry he's still having poop issues. Sending vines.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

The flopping on the LB sounds scary, did the vet tell you to expect a leaky bum after the procedure???
Good luck with the bum wash, don't tell the other kitties but George used to get those regular, prior to his FD diagnosis, he was always most indignant.

Just a suggestion but when I looked at your SS, the 57 isn't in there, I can see it in comments, but it's not obvious when you scan the numbers, most folk usually stack the numbers in the pmps slot to reflect the stall.
Something like 57@+12 then pmps 87@+12.5, that clearly reflects he dropped to 57 (his nadir), which is important and that you stalled and he came up at a glance.
I saw it today because I read the condo, but I think if I were looking back at numbers it would be easy to miss the stall and the 57.

Thanks! Just corrected the SS. Wasn't quite sure how to handle that.

She did warn me about him "leaking" and having very loose stools today. The water up in there is doing its job. A very DIRTY job. Glad I have stain resistant carpeting. Any tips on the cleaning of the bum? I plan to muzzle and burrito. Any other suggestions?

I didn't need to burrito Eorge, even though he's a big strong cat he's a gentle giant.
I tried to be quick about it, I would wash him in the sink, The bath was more difficult/awkward)putting some warm water in first, dunk his bottom half and wash it with my right hand whilst holding him in my left, use a fair bit of cat shampoo, and made sure I rinsed well.
For the most part it was pee that was the problem, getting the smell out of his fur was difficult, once he got regulated he stopped getting dirty, big relief for both of us.

Thanks! Just corrected the SS. Wasn't quite sure how to handle that.
Perplexed me the first time I had to do it. Thanks.

Just seen he's dropped at +1, with all his issues he eating ok? I wonder if this is just a very late Lev nadir? Or if he has some excitement planned.

Hope the little guy surfs for you, and the bum clean is not too traumatic for either of you.

Off to bed, it's 1am here.
Night night.

Oh, poor Jimmy with the impaction and now the leaky bum.......Good luck with the partial bath. Once a long while ago, I tried to bath Bubba ( he had fleas ) and my bathroom looked like a Tsunami had hit. He'd jump out , SPLASH!! I would get him back in and he'd jump out again, SPLASH. And each time he'd jump out it looked like a tidal wave! My bathroom was flooded, I was soaking wet and quite scratched up. My advice: Good Luck! LOL. Maybe some unscented baby wipes could help. That is what a friend of my used with her senior incontinent cats.

The constipation can absolutely play havoc with the numbers. The time before last when Bubba was on insulin he got constipated and his numbers jumped from regulated into the 200's. As soon as he had a BM, the numbers dropped back down again. As far as the tumor slowing up, it could be a possibility too.

I hope the leaking slows down, and that he isn't jumping up on your furniture.

He’s not a furniture kitty but he thoroughly enjoys sitting on the pale blue carpeting lol. I have a muzzle and will attempt to put him in a burrito position. While I use a warm wash cloth and attempt to comb it out. I’m gonna need a cocktail after this lol

Freaking out a little - I just tested him +3 nd he's at 54which has been his onset. I just gave him some raw with 1/2 tsp of Karo. Will test again...

+3.5 68. These numbers are very foreign. Should I give him more Karo after next test if he slides back down? Or let him ride it out?

This is early on in the cycle so you may have to keep steering. I'm sure more experienced eyes will jump on. I would give a little MC gravy and re-test in 15-20. The 68 could just be the karo and that wears off quick. Not sure how its just what I'e read here.

You need to test him 30 minutes after the last food and karo and see if he is staying above 50 on your human meter. The karo can take a few hours to get out of his system so I would test through nadir to make sure he doesn't have any funny stuff if store for you. He is safe , just be vigilant.

OK - thanks Bobbie! As long as he gets some tuna water with every test he should be cooperative. He's just hanging out on the sundeck tonight - pre-Harvest moon and he's loving the ocean breeze tonight!

68 a half hour after the Karo. I'm due to test again in 1o min (@ 10PM EST). My concern is that he's a long way from nadir. I'm just panicky - this is uncharted territory.
Understandably. Just keep testing him. If he hangs where he is without anymore karo through nadir, you are probably going to be just fine ( but use a little food to steer. You don't want him to get full now in case he decides to drop again or give too much karo and get him sick to his stomach.

So crazy that after the enema Jimmy just worked the juice. Could it have some kind of blood sugar lowering affect? Thinking out loud:rolleyes:

Boat on the Harbor sounds like heaven!

This is the 26 units still talking so glad you reduced him.

If you need anymore assistance, put the 911 back up . I need to head to bed as 2 AM comes fast.
Thanks! I appreciate your help. He’s at 77 so I’m happier but will continue to test until morning.

God! How did you do this with Beenie all those nights?? Ugh. Good luck at vet tomorrow. Head bumps to Beenie.

This is what I picture except missing the at night part and moon lit sky:joyful:

Pretty much. Except we have a screened in enclosure. They have gotten out once or twice and did little walks about a onboard but never have wanted to get off...and usually end up meowing to get back in not realizing they can come in the same way they got out. Lol

Honestly the first 2-3 times were terrifying but after that then I just knew exactly what to do so I wasn't nervous anymore. That's why we test like we do so we can intervene and keep the kitties safe.
Glad Jimmy's up to 77. You will probably be up most of the night but there's always time to catch up on sleep:rolleyes: Plus its amazing how little sleep we can function on. I couldn't believe what I was doing for that stretch. Not doable long term but...

Gordy occassionally goes to my parents sailboat with me... i can't even get him to climb up the inner stairs to look into the cockpit.

He says "no mom. Floor is safe. No water" lol

Lol. Yea. They are pretty good. They’ve lived onboard for five years. They aren’t big fans of the grumbly monster below the boat ie the engines. But they sleep right through blizzards and nor’easters. They adapted quite quickly. Thankfully.

Y'all stay on the boat during new england winters?!? Crazy!!!!! All the power to you! Lol

Gordy hasnt had to contest with the engine going yet... but the first time the water pump came on... oh boy. :cat: poor kitties ;)

It's 1:30 AM and just got up to check on Bubba and looked in on y'all. Hope you snagged another test around +6 - 7 to make sure he stayed up. Inquiring minds want to know.

Alarm never went off now I’m working on getting his numbers up. 74 up from 33 after 1/2 tsp of Karo and some food.

All OK - I set my alarm for PM not AM. :banghead::(. When I woke up he was laying in his chair where I left him at +4.5. Grabbed a test - got 33. He appeared OK. I gave him 1/2 tsp of Karo with a fork or two or raw with water. After that gave him some tuna water mixed with water to keep him near me. Tested shortly after and numbers were going up. +10 132 is where we are now. He seems fine - alert and sitting back up on the sundeck.

I believe he's earned a reduction even though last night's reduction still had the 26 in play.

Well I'm up now - having some coffee.

What a night! When I didn't see anymore numbers pass the +4.5 I thought you might have fallen a sleep. Been there done that  but so glad that you got some food and karo into the little bugger.

Yes, he earned another reduction even though it was still under the influence of the 26 units but, anything under 40 calls for an immediate reduction.

Hope you get a nap in today. I am going BTB for an hour.

I even went back and read the TR sticky about reductions and yet I still kept to the 24 this morning. Hope it doesn’t get me in to trouble later again. At least he’s up and safe for sure right now....219. Thanks for checking in. :bighug:

Looks like he is in full bounce mode now so he will likely be fine but, I know you'll keep an eye on him.

You shooting the 24 units again was like shooting through the bounce and you can reduce the next cycle. Maybe by then some of the High Dose Kitty parents will stop by and give their opinion as to what to reduce too.

Well I forgot to set my alarm completely last night.
Glad it all went well but looks like you could use a little sleep. Not to bad of a bounce considering that 33:eek:
Hope today is uneventful;)
