Soooo...Jimmy has been struggling with constipation for awhile now - I thought I had it under control up until yesterday (day 5 no poo/but straining to go). Took him to (yet another) new vet for X-ray. Which resulted in a manual enema. That was fun. NOTE TO SELF: Don't wear white to the vet.

Good news/Bad news - x-ray looked good. No inflammation or arthritis, organs all looked good. But colon was distended and had some poo and gas behind it. Possibly the begininngs of mega colon. Anyway - I get home around 1pm and two hours later tested him - +8 101.Woah! I was expecting him to be zooming up in the 300s. I will of course grab another test shortly - and see if he rises. DH has to give the shot tonight - so may ask him to stall. I see a bounce in my future!

Going out soon. Gave him a drop or so of Karo @ + 10.5. Husband is home to test. Seriously considering skipping PM shot. He’s had a rough day and I may let this play out.

He rose to 73 fifteen min after the 2ish drops of karo. PMPS is one hour away still - DH will test at 5:30 and will determine whether to shoot, stall, reduce, or skip. Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy. An enema wasn't enough excitement today??

Sorry about the vet visit, and the shirt. :arghh: But hello green. :D Constipation can raise the numbers, so fixing that could make him feel better. Some cats (like Neko) go lower at the vet.

Jimmy was perfectly safe at +10.5, you didn't need to feed him karo. And now DH is going to have to stall PMPS at least 1/2 hour, cause you want that HC (karo) to wear off so you know if it's a good number to shoot. That means at least 2 hours without higher carbs. For next time, you could have done a little LC. Many Lev cats nadir around +12, another reason you didn't need HC.

I felt he didn’t need to go lower. But again it was literally a drop from the Karo bottle. It clearly didn’t raise him up too much. Also - he’s raw fed. So what is a MC option for us? I don’t want to give him commercial wet. I think the constipation really played a role here. I’m not home to monitor closely - so feel OK letting him ride tonight.

I also have R I can give when I get home. I assume I can use it if I see him skyrocketing tonight? And regroup tomorrow morning.

Jimmy didn't "need" to lower, but he would have been safe going a bit lower. I also fed raw to Neko. I broke down and had some cans of MC/HC, but you can also find higher carbs raw. The H0nest Kitchen Grace and Prowl are dehydrated raw (so you only hydrate what you need) and higher carbs. I didn't use it because in Canada you could only get it in huge quantities. Or you can add honey/karo/syrup to the raw.

Yes, you can use R tonight if he's skyrocketing. The depot will have been messed with so you might (or might not) see some higher numbers until the depot is back in play.

I'm sorry to hear Jimmy is having poo issues. I'm glad everything else looked great! No inflammation, no arthritis, organs looked good. This is fantastic news!!:)

I feel your pain with the constipation. My civvie goes back and forth with being backed up. He's had about three manual enemas and two regular enemas with "liquid" so I know how upsetting it is. I can't figure out a happy medium right now. This is not a new issue but it reappeared when I switched the whole house to FF pates. I used to have to use Mirlax then ended up using Vetasyl. Vetasyl worked for YEARS. Its just psyllium husks. I'm using it now but it works best to keep the issue at bay not remedy it. I added pumpkin back in a few days ago. Then I had liquipoo. So I'm trying to again figure out the right combination, dosage, and frequency in which to give all of the above:blackeye:...or try something else, SEB, Aloe...

Anyhoo I hope Jimmy feels better soon and you find the right concoction for him:bighug:

I so wanted to do the do the fecal transplant but pilling ain’t gonna happen. I can’t add psyllium husk because it’s bulk I’m dealing with. Gahhh.

Hoping Nutrivee prebiotic helps makes his stools smaller. It’s had good results with other mega colons. I plan to increase his water intake even more and continue the cisapride lactulose cbd regiment. Increasing one of those one at a time for a desired result. Geez dosing is ez compared to the poop game. I know he feels better though. I actually think I may be more traumatized than he is. The struggle is real.

Re: the depot. Yup. I’m expecting that. But now I know this dose is something that gets him well below renal threshold for now. And that’s been our goal. I’m sure it will change day to day and this is only the beginning. I’ve been fighting resistance for sure. As you say they are more than just numbers. He had a rough day at the vet and he’s in the lowest numbers he’s seen in a long while...this disease sucks.
