Hi all! I have to share a story of what happened this morning when I tested Rex. And yes, I'm still testing daily.

I tested Rex and got 114. I thought that could be a wonky strip. I better test again. Cue a heart attack .. 2nd strip came back 140!! OK, I gotta test again ... something is wrong here .. I know you didn't get into any contraband overnight!! 3rd strip came back 88. On a normal day, I would have thought that was high, but I was happy to see that number today!! :joyful:

Rex had a pattern over the weekend that I found interesting .. 82, 72, 62, and 72.

I'm glad you finally got a green. If you're worried, you can test again in a couple of hours and see if he's still green.

There are a lot of factors that can affect the BG, and it's virtually unheard of to get two identical readings, even from the same drop of blood. Don't let a number between 100 and 120 concern you, unless it starts to be the norm. Of course, when you have the ability, you should retest after three hours to see if he comes down. Then you know the pancreas is working and his BG is just fluctuating normally.

I vote for the 114, myself, but you get to choose, so if you want to go with the 88, I don't think anyone is going to argue with you! ;)

BTW, your membership certificate from Testaholics Anonymous is in the mail. :p

Oh boy! What the heck Rex??? Here's what I would do: I would take an average of all three readings and go with that, lol which would be 114, the first number you got. And seeing that +3 you got, I would say the first 2 test were a +0% variance. And like Tricia said, whenever you can retest in 3 hours and if in green, no worries.

I meant to say the first 2 test were a +20% variance, not 0%

That's funny how it does average out to 114. What's the odds of that?! o_O

The +3 was actually +15 after the AMBG test. I wasn't sure how to make it clear that it was 3 hours after Rex's old PMBG time. AMBG 88 (114) +15 57 would have been better. I changed up how I feed the cats so I feed them 3 times roughly 8 hours apart.

How were you feeding them before? Just curious. I am doing about every 4 hours and would like to change it to every 6

Well, I would feed in the morning before going to work for t/f/s. Then when I got home, that was 2 hours before PMPS so Rex couldn't have anything. I had to avoid the kitchen like the plague or the cats would make a mad dash in there (only for me). At first, the cats were fed 12 hours apart. But then I started giving snacks to the cats before bed, usually because Rex was too low and it wasn't fair to the other 3 cats. When Rex went into remission, I kept up the same schedule, but then I got tired of the cats bugging me to feed them while I'm trying to eat my dinner so I started feeding them as soon as I get home so they would leave me alone in the kitchen if I had to cook. Then the nighttime snack became a meal in itself.

Rex is the tubby of all 4 cats and needs to lose a little weight. He's around 14 pounds right now. His ideal weight is closer to 11 or 12 pounds. I started out at 2 ounces with raw for 3 meals, but now I am giving 1.8 ounces. He eats so fast so I have to stand guard for the other 3 cats. Rex is now learning "REX!" means he needs to back off. :stop:
