Maybe I gave a furshot...he didn't smell like it but maybe I just didn't catch it.

I think it's likely a typical high, flat bounce curve after those low numbers yesterday.

Yeah, this is most likely the case as Djamalia also reminded me of this just last night. I just always assume I'm the one doing something wrong, and I shouldn't. But this sugar dance can be so confusing!!

You bet it's confusing! You did nothing wrong. The kitty is in charge. ;)

We're getting a little movement tonight

Gonna grab 1 or 2 more before bed. Have to work tomorrow and at most I'll only be able to get a +2 and that's if I move his shot back about 20-30 mins. So my game plan is over 375 4.75u, low 300's and under 4.25u. Both with food left out. At 240 the other night on 4u he didn't hit any greens (while i was awake) so I think it's probably safe but at 264 and 4.5u he took a nose dive. If I can I'll run home and check around +4, but I'm the only one working the next 3 days...so it might be tough to do that.

So wow! A fully formed stool!!! There was a small amount of bright red blood on part of it so I know there's still some inflammation going on here. It's a common symptom of IBD so we may have unfortunately graduated to that point. But It's the first time he hasn't has soft or watery poop. I'll talk about it with our vet at the next apt. He didn't seem to be straining FWIW. It hasn't been long since we switched him back to novel proteins so this may stop on it's own. I'll keep an eye out an if continues then we'll head into the vet. It was a VERY small amount and I haven't seen it with the watery/soft stools, so he may not be used to passing formed poop. I suppose there's always the chance he could have been constipated a little... Maybe when I make the apt. for a dental they could also do a colonoscopy. We did de-worm him recently just in case it was causing some of our symptoms.

PMPS 434 I reduced down to 4u because I have an awful headache and was scared it was going to turn into a migraine and wouldn't be able to monitor, but of course I'm still up.

Pretty sure he'll be in the blues most of tonight and maybe even hit a green. More than anything I'd like to *try* and reduce those super high bounces a bit. I know the high PMPS was from the bounce he had from last night and it didn't look like his numbers moved too much today. I REALLY want to do what I can to prevent that, but I know, I know....Kitty is in control :) All the supplements (Zobaline, S. Boulardii - stopped for now because he seemed constipated, FortiFlora, and P-booster) seem to really be helping him feel better all around. It's been a long past several months and to see him responding this well is comforting.

My my Spicoli! Don't bounce so high little boy :p. I am just chiming in again that I am thinking the P-booster helps Maury bounce less on the trampoline. I hope it helps Spicoli too :). Spicoli reminds me of the baby I wanted if my GA boy (Maury looks a lot like him) and his half sister (looked like Tonkinese) could have had kittens :cat:

We've been using it for about a week? or so now. He's still bouncing but some of the bounces aren't as dramatic. Except for this AM - PS 606. Yesterday he had a high flat cycle again, but stayed mostly in the 300s, so it wasn't as bad. He's still doing better overall. And the Zobaline has certainly helped with energy levels. I've been slowly shifting his his schedule so I can get a +2 before I have to head out the door, which has also enabled me to watch him more at night, since that's been when he drops. He usually has some nice PM numbers and then bounces for the AM.

I get so discouraged on days like today...when he's high all day long. If he's still high tomorrow AM I'll stick with 5u. Still high tomorrow PM 5.25. I hate when he gets stuck up here.

He's bounced up to those highs but even so they can still get stuck as glucose toxicity builds. That's why it's wise to up the dose sooner than later.

@ +7 was 295
PMPS 509

I gave 5.5u (+.25u from this AM) tonight. Just in an effort to get him down. Haven't caught him peeing yet... He isn't showing any physical symptoms of DKA. I know it can come on rapidly so I'm still going to try and grab a test tonight. I'm sure he went when I ran to the store or was in the shower...He knows whats going on :)

I definitely understand the sense of urgency with these numbers. I would encourage you to hold the 5.5 for three cycles before the next increase though. It's important to have a minute to adjust to each dose before the next one starts. Hopefully you'll start to get some more consistent action soon.

Gosh.. I know... I'm too urgent. I understand consistency and how important it is. I hope he does get a little bit more predictable soon. He just bounces anytime he gets good numbers. I should have gone with 5.25 instead of 5.5.

Oh, I actually think the 5.5u was fine. Just now that you're there, hold it for a couple more cycles. Once you get into higher doses, many people will start doing 0.5u increases instead of 0.25u increases if they have a cat that's still in high numbers. The reasoning is around the percent of the increase. At one unit, a 0.25u increase is a 25% increase. But at 5u, a 0.5u increase is only 10%. That being said, Spicoli has had a couple of greens recently, so you'll need to be a little bit careful which way you go with that.

Oh agreed. I'm pretty sure, just a feeling, his AMPS will be in the 300-400s, so I'm not really sure what I should do. When he wasn't having a high bounce cycle, in the 400's 4.75 was good. But any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The trouble is, there's no way to know for sure until you try it and collect the data. If you're home and can monitor, I would shoot the dose and just do some spot checks. If you aren't going to be home all day, I think you'll have to use your mama sense to decide what you think is best and what you'll feel okay with. I know that's not much help though.

+4 374 Not dropping much...

I'll go by the little data I have since he started moving again. So it'll really depend where he is in the AM. Going to schedule a dental tomorrow for hopefully sometime this week. The ER vet said (last time he was in there) that he had halitosis and gingivitis. Our normal vet didn't seem to think anything of it, but he's had 2 FORLs and I know he's prone to teeth issues. Hopefully, maybe, that might help us. They're just so dang expensive!!! - though less than others I've seen posting around here lately. When we had the 2 FORLs it was only $350, but he had blood work done recently so it would have been around $500, so that's what I'm preparing myself for. Been trying to save up a little to do this over the past few weeks.

Actually, we've seen plenty of people have a dental push them into better numbers! Here's hoping it will help!

Dentals are crazy expensive. Sam had two extractions which were over $600 (I live in a very expensive city). I took him in because his numbers were starting to rise. Just a little, but enough that I wanted to make sure if everything was okay. The vet insisted that dental issues don't have any connection to FD, but as soon as he recovered his numbers stabilized again. So hopefully it will help Spicoli too!

I'll be curious to see if changing the dry food has any impact as well. Fingers crossed that between those two things, he'll get some better ranges!

High this AM
AMPS 569

Going to try to run grab a +6 in a bit.

Ketone test neg. He ran to the box as soon as I was heading to the shower this AM. I didn't get a clean sample, but got it off the pee pad in the bottom of the box. I had just changed it, so I know it was fresh. Will try and catch him with the spoon tonight!!

Dental scheduled for Wednesday!!

Good luck, Wes and Spicoli! :cat:
Maury's dental has a minimum estimate of like $600 too . Oh just saw you posted. Yay for neg ketones!

PMPS 449

I went with a dose that had been working very well for us before the past few high days - 4.75u. He *should* hit a green tonight or get pretty close to it. Will grab a +4 just to make sure, as he has been in some low dark greens on this dose. Fingers crossed. I just have a feeling that the 5.5u wouldn't have been wise here. Who knows, maybe it was a fur shot/partial this AM since he wasn't bouncing, and I just missed it...I was half asleep.

Ok. My neighbors think I'm crazy. Spicoli HATES going to the bathroom in the house ever since he was allowed outdoors. The boxes are always clean etc and I knew he had to go from all the begging to go out. I opened the front door let him out, and took off behind him, little measuring cup in hand. Not 10 secs later he pops a squat and I get my clean sample. You guys wouldn't have thought twice about what was going on, but now I'm sure my neighbors, especially the ones on the hill, think I'm into weird cat stuff. But oh well. We do what we gotta do :D

It was neg :)

+4 PMPS 85 so looks like he's actually been getting too much insulin? anyways 4.75 is too much for PMPS 449. Gonna be up a while, and expecting a bounce in the AM. Gave 2 TBS of 14% carb food since he still has 2-3 hrs to drop. SO EXCITING!!!!! HOORAY!!!

YES!! He bounced and was in the upper 500's (at work and don't have my SS handy, and forgot my PW so I can't log in on this comp). at +3 was 407. Did 4.5u this AM. Gonna try and run home for a +5. Might get tricky with his dental tomorrow. He's not supposed to have food after 9pm. But obviously if he's going to hypo then he gets food.

That's all right...those bounce cycles suck, but how exciting you got that green! Besides, sometimes after the first lower number in awhile, it's nice for us to see them not diving again. :) Looking forward to seeing more green!

AMPS 459 2.25u since it's dental day and he can't eat :( The poor boy, all he wants is his breakfast.
So I don't expect him to have a very active day today either. Will update on our dental this afternoon.

Good luck with his dental. It's so stressful for the human too! :bighug:

Those last hours of fasting are so hard. Hugs to you and Spicoli. Keep us updated on how it goes today! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am so mad at our vet. I had him check Spicoli's mouth not a month ago. I asked if needed a cleaning he said no. The poor thing just had 5 extractions due to more FOLRs. I know it's difficult looking in a cats mouth, but come on. Might be time for a vet change. I'm upset about this to say the least. No wonder he's been bouncing all over the charts.

That's maddening! Let's hope this makes his BG drop and settle down. :(

Well we're home. I went easy on the vet tech, it wasn't her fault and she helped him. I did tell her I was frustrated with some of the care we had been getting, especially regarding this. I just hope it gets passed along, though it probably won't.

We've got bupe and antibiotics. Here's to having his teeth/mouth fixed :) I'm sure he'll start feeling better now. The poor poor boy. He has none of his bottom front teeth, and quite a few others missing as well. He's had 7 removed and was already missing 1-2 before that.

Oh wow. I would be furious. Give Spicoli head scratches from all of us, and keep us posted on how he does the next few days getting used to his new mouth. I'm sure he'll be so glad to have those teeth out.

Oh wow. I would be furious.
I am. Beyond words right now. He seems to be in great spirits tonight at least. And I'm sure he's happy to have them out. They only charged me for 2 of the 5 because the other 3 were so lose she said she hardly even had to pull them - how can that be missed. I'm mad at the negligence. I'm mad my baby suffered for so long. I'm glad I scheduled this against my vets wishes.

He's eating well :) Not crazy about the meds, but what cat is. Hopefully a good nights sleep will do us both good and calm me down some. I know it's not the end of the world, but how could I have missed this. How could the vet. At least my dad gave me a good laugh. He's a very proper man, never gets an attitude with anyone really unless it's deserved. He said he'd go give the vet a piece of his mind and it'd take the police dragging him out before he'd be done. I really can't even picture this...

Thank you guys for the kind words :) We both really needed them. And he'll be getting lots of head scratches:):)

He's been eating up a storm since late last night :) Numbers ran a little high today but I thought they might till his mouth heals a bit. He doesn't seem to be in much pain but I'm still going to do the bupe every 8-12 hrs until our pre-filled syringes are gone.

The YA arrived today and since Spicoli really shouldn't have kibble yet, the 2 civvies Taco and Addy did a taste test. I gave them both 2 small bowls - one with the YA one with the EVO. They both preferred the YA!! :) So glad, because I didn't get a sample before buying the big bag. The EVO is almost gone so I'm probably going to put the rest of it outside for our feral kitty.

Well, he doesn't seem to be feeling well today. Not eating much (still eating enough, just not as much as I'd like), loafing.. numbers high today. AMPS 541 +3 395 +7 434. Could be a bounce from getting into the 100s last night, but I think he's just not feeling himself after having all the extractions.

That's quite likely. Is he getting pain meds?
