Please help me

my name is marmalade and I suffer from diabetes. Recently I had my teeth taken out as stomatitis took its toll on me. Ever since my surgery my eyes have had this black sticky stuff inside my eye on my lower and upper lid and also has stuck to the fur outside my eye. I went to the vet and was put on an eye ointment for conjunctivitis. I went back to the vet and they put me on terramyacin as this black stuff was still occurring. The vet said the black stuff was just eye goop and there was still. Some discharge do the infection still wasnt cleared up yet. Has everyone ever had this happen? Any insight would be appreciated.

awww- poor Marmalade. My cat has had a dark eye discharge at times but the vet never could see or find an infection. Maybe the terramyacin will clear it up but if not I would ask the vet what else he could give you. You could also consult a specialist if your current vet isn't able to help with getting rid of it. Is your kitty's diabetes controlled? If not maybe this is why the infection is not clearing easily-just a thought.

Poopy eyes come and go in this house. Noah always has a bit, Sam a bucket and Marco never. Think about why Ear-Nose-Throat are always connected, it may be an infection from the surgery. Some antibiotics take longer to work than others.

Hi. I am not sure about his sugar as so many things have been going on. I was surprised over the weekend as his sugar was between 30-50 this weekend so I just gave him a little more food to raise his sugar. I think the terramycin is helping as there doesn't seem to be as much dried black goop in and around his eyes and he doesn't seem to be squinting as much and opening his eyes more. I am actually positive today and am thinking that this medicine was best he needed all along.

Is your kitty on insulin? Are you testing with a human meter or a pet meter? Either way, this is dangerously low if he's getting insulin.

I am currently testing at hom but do not have any lancets or strip strips right now. He is on 2 units of vetsulin per day. At this point I can not spend any money on office visits at the vets so who knows what is going with him.

I have a feeling that my vet does not know what is going on with my cats eyes as he has been on 2 eye ointments. That being said how should I clean his eyes especially if then goop continues to be there

Those 30 to 50 BG readings are very, very low. That suggests that 2 units of Vetsulin is too high a dose. Do you mean 2 units once a day or 1 unit AM and 1 unit PM? Either way, the dose seems too high.

If funds are very low you can try contacting Diabetic Cats in Need for assistance so you can keep your kitty safe. @Chris & China works with them and can give you contact info.

2 units is the dose that strongly suggests home testing - no need for curves at vets.

I used to buy Relion Prime strips at Walmart $17 per 100, Relion Lancets gauge 28 - $1.48 in California. The meter itself was I believe like $12.
Testing the pre shot is the best way to keep a cat safe.

I would use cotton ball dampened in warm water and gently clean his eyes several times a day. As Kris suggested above try contacting DCIN - they saved my cats life.

I have tried to contact DCIN several times to see if they could help me with supplies but got no response. They were great initially and sent me supplies. I want to test him more but have no money to order lancets and test strips.

I would get supplies from Walmart but DCIN sent me the meter lancets and test strips thru their supplier. It is crazy for me to buy another meter when I have one.

I would at least cut your kitty's total daily insulin dose in half until you can start testing again.

Mary, the meter we send is the same meter as the Relion Confirm from WalMart....you can use the Confirm/Micro strips from WalMart

Arkray makes the Confirm meter for WalMart and they slap their "Relion" name on it....the meter we sent you is the Arkray Glucocard01....exact same thing

The Confirm strips are $35.88/100 but I know my store also sells 50 and 20 strips
