I hope it's okay that I'm posting here again. It's been awhile. My current feline friend, Dusty, doesn't have diabetes, but my previous cat, my beloved Moritz, passed away from kidney failure (after getting off-the-juice) in November of 2012. I've come to trust this site and its members and so am hoping to get some reassurance.
About 2.5 months ago, Dusty had an episode where I thought he had a urinary blockage. On the way to the emergency vet, he ended up urinating (thankfully). This was just a day or so following a major dental procedure, so the vet believed the episode was brought on by stress (they were thinking maybe it was Feline Idiopathic Cystitis). Anyway, since then I've been very, very closely monitoring his urinary habits (probably annoying him doing so :/) It seems that lately he's been urinating more frequently (hard to say exactly since I'm at work during the day, but sometimes it seems like 6-8 times in a 24-hour period). I brought in a urine sample for analysis, and I just got a call from the vet (well, I spoke to the receptionist who relayed a message), that there is nothing of note from the urinalysis. On the one hand, I'm relieved. But the vet says she'd like to examine Dusty tomorrow since she's not sure what might be causing his frequent urination.
I'm so, so worried now (I have an anxiety issue to begin with), trying to think of all of the possible explanations. Hyperthyroidism? Kidney disease? I estimate his age at around 4 yrs., though I'm not 100% sure.
As a note, he only gets wet food, twice a day (Wellness chicken or turkey), and I add water to it (I don't measure, but I estimate I add about 1/4 to 1/3 cups of extra water to each serving). I never see him drink from his bowl of water. I recently tried a kitty fountain, and he wasn't interested in that, either. I also wonder if he's just a frequent urinator (if this can be normal in cats?), and if I'm only noticing it now because I'm keeping such a close eye. Perhaps he only wasn't urinating quite as frequently following the episode as his body got back to normal. Not sure...
He had blood work taken in June prior to his dental surgery, and there was nothing out of the ordinary (aside from slightly elevated glucose, which the vet said was normal for a stressed out kitty at the vet).
