Well, this sure is exciting. PS #'s are creeping back up (bummer, but let's see what they are tonight, mornings are always higher). I hope he will surf today. Little worried after the past few cycles.

Nice poo overnight!! YAY. Small hairball throw up this morning on the downstairs floor - not unusual for him - when his numbers get better and he is more active, he also cleans/grooms more, hence the hairball. I think that last one was, maybe 3 months ago(?).

Have a wonderful day!

What's the Aloe juice for?

Congrats on the reductions! :D

Bobbie turned me on to it. I am giving marshmallow root for stomach acid/constipation (AM/PM food) and wanted to discontinue using on a regular basis so she suggested the aloe juice. Right now I am just adding it to the MMR slurry because of the constipation (poor boy hadn't gone in two days). But when/if I need to give meds/supplements in the AM I will just give the aloe.

ETA-I use MMR instead of SEB.

Hoping she posts the website today.

Aha! The Aloe Juice mystery solved... Girlie had major constipation issues (was how she was diagnosed), so poo is very important for us. :-) We finally got the formula just about right: fresh pumpkin mashed into her food; 1/2 tsp Miralax w/food am/pm; and 0.25 ml Cisapride am/pm

Sometimes I wonder at her utter patience with all of these drugs I give her...they're so forgiving, aren't they?

Gizmo will not touch pumpkin . I was using Miralax but did like giving something that pulled water out of his system (on a regular basis), since he has ckd he needs to retain as much water as possible.

It is all about finding a balance (and not trying too many things at the same time and not going too fast).

I swear God blessed me with Gizmo's FD to teach me patience .

Lord, I am really trying. :)

Looks like a bit of a bounce from that nice 56 last night. The same thing is happening to Bubba. Any cycle a 50 number appears, the next 2 cycles was higher. Hopefully he'll flatten out.

Here is the website I read more about Aloe Vera Juice for dogs and cats and all the benefits of Aloe Vera Juice. But, it was Caroline from FoodFurLife that told me about mixing it with SEB and making a little ball and getting it into them 1/2 hour before eating for nausea. ( I couldn't get it into Bubba that way and just put it into his food.

I hope the Aloe works for Bronx as well. Trying everything to get him off of Lactulose & Miralax. Some of the things I am using are MMR, pumpkin, ground flax seeds, Lax-Eze granules... Gave up on the Natural Moves, he won't touch it and when I put it in a syringe, he would fight me tooth and nail to shoot it in his mouth.

Is that nausea?
I would have to say yes, but since he doesn't tell me can't say for sure. :p Even with the nausea meds he was still drooling a bit (he doesn't drool bad). I thought maybe after the dental that would stop but it only slowed it down. When he was in for the BW last time I had Dr. P check to make sure him mouth still looked ok and it did - so that is when I decided that it was probably nausea.

See, at what point do you just say enough and go with something else. I don't want Gizmo's QOL any more disrupted with stuff that makes him unhappy. If I can help him without making him miserable I will do it, otherwise I will find something else. I sure hope the Aloe works for Bronx. Gizmo seems to really like the MMR slurry and didn't even notice the addition of the aloe juice to it! He is getting B12 and B-Right complex (AM only) mixed into his +2.5, +4.5 and +7.5. He doesn't detect those either. That is all he is getting unless I need to intervene with pain management and/or nausea meds.

I love the patience thing - so true, so true!

To learn to find balance; to get rid of expectations; to be given the opportunity to practise patience and genuine compassion: we have much to thank our beloved FD kitties for, I think! :joyful:

I see that @Bronx's dad didn't like Natural Moves either. My civvie wouldn't touch it. What does work for us also is Vetasyl. I sprinkle it in his food and it goes undetected. Its just psyllium husks and barley malt extract for flavor. Here's a link

I used to use just psyllium husks but lately Murphy's issue has been soft stools/diarrhea - so it's one issue I haven't had to deal with lately

Plus ondansetron can be constipating, so if you are giving that frequently, it might be contributing, Lizzie

This is the third time I have read about psyllium husks being used successfully. Thanks for the link.

Thank you! Good to know. Putting that in my notes. I didn't know that.

Good morning , Lizzie and Gizmo :). Houston/ surrounding area is still on my heart ...prayers for full and speedy recovery :bighug:
Thank you. It is still a shock to go down a street where I haven't been since Harvey and the flooding and see the devastation. Entire household contents sitting on the edge of the street to be picked up and disposed of. Piles 12-20' square and stacked 8-10' high. Furniture, toys, refrigerators - everything. Even stuff that may not have actually been flooded but sat in homes that did has to be disposed of because of black mold.

They are currently doing C130 fly over spraying of all the flooded counties - trying to get ahead of the mosquitoes invasion that is soon to come. People are freaking about the spraying - what they don't seem to understand is that malaria, yellow fever, plague and zika are much, much worse than anything the residual "spray" may have. :banghead: It is kinda cool to have a c130 fly over the house only 500' above it (but I am a plane freak). The only thing I am disappointed about the spraying is that it kills the fireflys too and they were just starting to make a come back in my area.:(

The mad scramble to get into housing has just started because people are just starting to getting checks from their insurance companies. Housing is going to be a huge issue for a long time.

This is one of about 5 location where they are staging flooded vehicles. Estimated that there are 50,000 at this location. They are estimating one million cars were flooded due to Harvey.

Thanks for that flood update, Lizzie. As soon as Irma came on the scene, everyone seemed to forget about Houston. Looks like a long, long road ahead. Regarding mosquitos, you are so correct. While it is unlikely for malaria and yellow fever to appear in Houston (at least lets hope so), zika, West Nile, dengue, and chikungunya are real threats (along with heartworm). @Mandarin'sMom volunteers for a shelter that took in some dogs from your area, and I think all were infected with heartworm (which is a threat to kitties as well)

Yes, Lizzie, thank you for Harvey recovery update. Our church worked relief /recovery after Joplin Mo EF 5 tornado in 2011. One of the eeriest things was the hundreds of demolished cars being taken away on trailers . Cannot begin to imagine a million of them.

Surf safely, Gizmo! And you and family stay safe, Lizzie.

As far as aloe...everyone is using George's distilled aloe, correct? I believe that regular aloe juice or gel would be toxic or bad for kitties. I use a little George's aloe in Taffy's pill chaser (his probiotics). It seems that what works best for the constipation really depends on what is causing the constipation.

The AVJ is really helping. And I started the Egg Yolk from Foodfurlife one week ago as the hairball problem was causing constipation so, the two things I believe are keeping him moving.
