Who doesn't like a pic of cute kittens!?! Amethyst is doing great!

Good Morning How is Beenie?? Where do you get these adorable pics??
Good morning Pamela! Beenie is doing ok. She's running a little higher but she's getting an increase tonight so hoping that brings her back to blues more often:cool:

I just google the cat pics:). There's always a ton to choose from :cat:

Please do monitor carefully with that lower preshot. Often Levemir can give a nadir close to the preshot time, but you can never be too safe. Normally in a situation like this you would stall without feeding and retest 20 minutes later to make sure the numbers were rising. Fingers crossed that shooting low will keep Amethyst surfing in the lower numbers.

HI NO I am afraid 97 is very low I just feed her and her brother and I was waiting for advice!

If you haven't shot yet, but you have already fed her can you afford to be off schedule by an hour or so. If so do not shoot and retest in an hour and repost the number. It looked like you had already shot because the unit was filled in.

Let's see what the experts say. Typically you don't feed. The idea is make sure Amethysy is rising on her own without the influence of food.

See @Tuxedo Mom advice above.

Hi Thank you I did not realize I should retest before feeding I got so upset I just assumed she needed to eat so she would not drop farther!!

Normally food will affect the glucose readings for about 2 hours, but a test in one hour will show if it is a larger increase from the food or just a small increase which will give an idea of whether the numbers were rising on their own or not

That 97 was a good number. However when you get a lower than usual preshot you hold off on shooting OR feeding for 20 minutes and retest. This will show if the numbers are starting to go up or are still dropping. Levemir can give some very late nadirs so retesting is important.

OKay Thank you I feed her because I did not realize I should wait this is the first green and I got scared!

Hi I just tested her and she is all the way up to 378!!!???

Pamela, you ok on what to do next? You're going to wait the hour after you fed so you can see how much Amethyst has risen.

Now you know next time you have a lower than normal preshot number, you don't feed and re-test to make sure the kitty is going up naturally. I've done this same exact thing myself so its how we learn. :bighug:I've read the stickies over and over and when nerves are a factor my mind goes to mush:confused:

Congrats on the first green!!!!:D

Can you do one more test. It is possible that 97 was not an accurate reading...sometimes when there is not enough blood you can still get a reading on the AT2 meter, but it may not be correct. or the strip could be "wonky" The numbers should not have risen that much in the time since you fed. Please retest and post your number. Thanks

Oh that is odd. May have been a wonky test strip. Here's the other tip I've learned very recently. When you get a number that seems really out of place re-test right away to rule out a bad test. I'm thinking the 378 or the 97 was a bad test. You may want to retest now to see if that 378 is right.

Did you wait the full hour?

THank you my mind and body goes to mush!!!!

Yes one hour I will retest It is a brand new bottle of strips??

Please retest now. If she is still over 300, the 97 was a wonky test and you are OK to give her insulin now.

In future, if you get number lower than you are comfortable shooting, do NOT feed, and post here for help.

Did you make sure the code on the new test strips matches the code on the meter. AT2 strips can sometimes have different codes. Just double check that before you retest.
Yes I had to change it to a 7 double checked it twice before testing her:bighug:

HI Thank you Now she is at 421!!!!:bighug:

WHEW...then that 97 was a wonky test, so you can go ahead and give your shot....hopefully your heart has slowed down now ;)

A good example of what to do when you get an unusual number or an actual low preshot number. Consider this a trial run for the future.

You are doing great, you will get used to it. As she gets better, you will see more activity. You know what to do and you always have this place for support.

imho, it wasn't a wonky test. This is Amethyst's track record and much different than the am cycle on 9/15.... just moved down a bit.
She just bounces quickly when she touches the blue floor and of course, now the green floor.

I know I do not think it was wonky either if you look at her SS she does this all the time this one really freaked me out!:nailbiting::nailbiting: Thank you for you help and support:bighug:

Hi Thank you I know Why does she keep taking dose dives??

I am still not convinced that green was a correct reading. It was out of place with the other readings and you got a MUCH higher reading an hour later. Even with food introduced it should not have had that great an effect so quickly unless it was VERY HC food. Normally a bounce does not happen immediately...it takes a number of hours or even a day to show up.

These are my own observations of dealing with 2 FD kitties over the last almost 3 years, both on Levemir. However every kitty is different so this may not be the case with Amethyst .

Levemir can sometimes be hard to predict because of the potential late nadir.

Good Morning Thank you for all of your help and support yesterday:cat: I know I am still confused she is back in the 300 this morning i will be testing her often and again at +10/ +11 when it seems she dives:oops:

Levemir quite often will have a later nadir than Lantus, so testing later in the cycle is a good plan. I will check back in later when I get home and see how Amethyst is doing :bighug:
