Pamela, you deserve BOS for shooting when you were terrified! I am very impressed - seriously. And as @LizzieInTexas said, "Imagine what those numbers would have been had you not shot!" So true! This happened to me so often, and I banged my head against the wall wishing I'd had more gumption and had shot her regular dose. :banghead:

@Sandy and Black Kitty wrote a really interesting post in another thread that I'm going to quote here as it really turned a lightbulb on for me as a summary of things I "knew" but had sort of forgotten. I hope she doesn't mind if I quote it here, as I think it might prove as useful for you as it was for me. If I'm not supposed to do this, someone let me know! :)
That's fine:cool:

Thank you, everyone! :-) This is the first truly peaceful day I've had with Girlie since she was diagnosed on 20 June. A sea of blues since last night. Her AM+8 is still blue at 185. She's happy; I'm happy; Max the moggie is happy because he's been allowed into the inner sanctum... Fingers and paws crossed that she has a lovely night as well!

That's so good Girlie!

You're in Sydney I think I recall? Do you have trouble finding good low carb foods?

I used to follow the list that had certain Fancy Feasts and also Gourmet Delight Heart Health and the healthy weight one, which were supposed to be low carb, as well as those other rectangular tins, but they all sent Dweezil really high! So do the Core Wellness ones which are supposed to be low carb! Every Fancy Feast he has had, including the lowest carb ones, makes him go high.

We have been feeding Dweezil Whiskas (Loaf styles only) which is low carb and doesn't increase his numbers but I don't like how it isn't very nutritionally dense, and also some of the Weruva Cats in the Kitchen (tins only. No pouches) and we often mix them in with the Whiskas as he gets bored with just the same old loaf styles.

We love feeding him Ziwipeak as it's so nutritious and low carb, but we can't buy it locally and sadly, it is just SO expensive.

What do you feed Girlie?

What do you feed Girlie?

I used to feed Girlie Whiskas and Ultimates Indulge, but now I mainly feed her Fancy Feast and then ProPlan, Holistic Select, Wellness, and am trying to get her onto ZiwiPeak. I've started a food conversation with you where I go into more detail. I use Dr Lisa Pierson's list, but you have to be careful that you don't confuse the US with the Australian ones - anyway, it's all in the conversation I sent you. I've highlighted the Australian ones we can get. Let me know if you have any questions!

Also, she always gets fresh pumpkin mixed in - helps with constipation and gut issues. I just buy a butternut pumpkin; cut it into cubes and either steam or boil them until soft; then just mash them up as is (don't add anything); then put it in small ice cube trays to freeze them. Then I just let it defrost and mix it in with her food. She actually likes the texture it gives to her food.

Also, just to remember: food companies do create "new and improved" versions, so if you see charts from a year or so ago, you can't necessarily assume that the carb and phosphorous levels are the same. This is one of the problems with Wellness: after Dr Pierson painstakingly put her data in the 2017 spreadsheet, Wellness altered their recipe to remove carageenan (did I spell that right)? and now the phosphorous levels are way up. I don't think the carbs are, though - if they are, Girlie doesn't react to that, and she reacts pretty easily to carbs. You can still find the lower phosphorous Wellness here in Australia - just make sure it's the ones that have Carageenan - those are the old ones.

Thank you sooooo much for going to all this troubl! Do you find Girlie does better on the Weruva, Proplan and Wellness and Ziwi rather than the Whiskas and Ultimates? I think the Whiskas loaves are truly low carb, but I have big doubts about the other health attributes in them.

Oh, and for now thankfully Dweezil has no kidney issues or any other health issues.

You are most welcome! And great to hear that Dweezil has no kidney issues - fantastic news.

I think the Fancy Feast are just fine; my vet uses them and recommends them and they're what I feed her for the most part. She's picky, so it's great to have a number of different foods to choose from, though. I have a second cat that can get her rejects, but when she's having an "I'm fussy" day, even he can't eat all the rejects! It's easier to throw away an $ .80 can of FF than it is a $2 can of ProPlan or ZiwiPeak... :-)

Love the pic of the two kitties sleeping together ! Good boy Max.

Pretty nice set of blue too.
