I think you can relax your testing and grab one before you go to bed and try to grab one around + 8 if she starts dropping again just to make sure.

well.... we usually give this out for the first lower number shot but with you worrying so much.....

we'll start earlier with you....

Good Job shooting a blue.....

looks like she was already posed to bounce ....

I like the idea of a +8 or thereabouts just to see what she does.....

I don't know why you only increased to 6.25 units. When the total dose is over 5 units, we increase by 0.5 units at a time, unless you are just tweaking a dose that is already seeing some green, the lowest Amethyst got at 6.0 units was 121, so you should have gone up by 0.5 units to 6.5 units.

Since she is on Levemir, and a late nadir cat, you will have to get used to shooting lower than you were on Lantus. Even on Lantus, we tell people here you are OK shooting over 150. If they give you a preshot under 150, then post here for help. I gave Neko her Levemir when her preshots were in the low 50's on a human meter, once I had the data to do so. And that's because for Neko, preshot was often her low point. Looks like that is sometimes true for Amethyst too.

I was so used to seeing Girlie in black and red numbers, with the occasional pink, that I almost lost it when I first saw a yellow and a blue for her AM or PMPS! I was so scared, and so conservative in how I responded. Now, looking back - even though I am still so very new! - I can say that I wish I would have given her the usual dose rather than skip the shot or reduce it. But this is all a learning curve, and it's all so scary at first - and continues to be a bit nerve-wracking. But trust the experienced people here who are guiding you. I trust them, and they've never steered me wrong.

As someone who has a cat who likes to do dramatic dives to low lime green numbers on occasion, it's not that bad. You learn through trial and error what works for your cat: MC food? HC food? Honey? Karo? Glucose syrup? But honestly - once you learn what works for your cat and what will bring the numbers up, it gives you a great sense of confidence and control. It'll be interesting to see how your kitty reacts to really low numbers or big drops. Girlie's signal that she's diving or going into greens/really low greens is that she licks her plate clean and wants more food. But this is particular to her, as she's not really a bit eater or food motivated, so this is unusual behaviour for her. Every cat is different (ECID), but it's great when you're able to finally see behavioural indicators or other things that give you clues. If only they could talk, eh? :-)

I still go "EEK, EEK!" inside when I see lime green numbers, but I post here immediately, and experienced people jump on and guide me and hold my hand step-by-step through it. As long as you've got the supplies and lots of test strips, and people here to guide you, you'll be okay.

Congratulations on shooting a blue number! Whoop whoop! You're doing really well! :D:p:bighug:

Excellent advise. And I can so, so relate. Also, read, read and re-read the stickys and others condos. See what they are doing. Watch others spreadsheets. How they use food and when.

Pamela, you will gain confidence the more you do this. Follow the protocol (and the advise here - they won't steer you wrong) and just take it one shot and one test at a time. All that stress last night about shooting the 164 and she bounced! Imagine what those numbers would have been had you not shot!

I do not feel that way BUT THank you:bighug:

Pamela, you deserve BOS for shooting when you were terrified! I am very impressed - seriously. And as @LizzieInTexas said, "Imagine what those numbers would have been had you not shot!" So true! This happened to me so often, and I banged my head against the wall wishing I'd had more gumption and had shot her regular dose. :banghead:

@Sandy and Black Kitty wrote a really interesting post in another thread that I'm going to quote here as it really turned a lightbulb on for me as a summary of things I "knew" but had sort of forgotten. I hope she doesn't mind if I quote it here, as I think it might prove as useful for you as it was for me. If I'm not supposed to do this, someone let me know! :-)
Follow the protocol and the numbers will be your guide.

Always remember-

Better a day too high than an hour too low.

Regulation does not happen instantly. You have to consider that his body is not accustomed to normal numbers and may actually perceive them as dangerous. Counter- regulatory hormones are then released to bring BG back up. When that happens you must sit on your hands, holding the dose and wait it out. At the same time, of a dose takes your kitty below 50, you reduce - even if you know it will result in higher numbers the next cycle and the higher numbers may last up to 6 cycles. Once it's clear his counter regulatory system has simmered down, you evaluate the nadir once again and increase or decrease accordingly.

This is why we call it the 'sugar dance'.
One step forward, two steps back...
Your kitty leads the dance- you must follow.

Healing has its own timetable. Some kitties transition from dry to low carb wet and zoom down the dosing ladder to remission. Others, like my Black Kitty, face a variety of challenges along the way and take longer (in our case 21 months). Some never make it to remission but enjoy a much improved quality of life with BG regulated by continued insulin.

You will hear it said around here-
The road to regulation is a marathon, not a sprint.

Hi Pam, you and Amethyst are doing so well. I am so happy to see those blues for you. You wanted them, and now you got them. The more you get them the more her pancreas will heal. Great Job...
