I could use a little help....

I just switched meters from the AT2 to Relion so I'm trying to wrap my head around the new numbers. I tested with both this morning. The AT2 was 149 and Relion was 83. 149 on the AT2 is a number I would typically shoot. But the 83 on the Relion makes me nervous.

We also just did a dose decrease to .25. Davis has been without insulin for 24 hours because I was scared to shoot low numbers yesterday and I feel equally scared today...but I don't want him to start bouncing up way high either.

I'll be home today so I'm thinking I should just go for it and monitor him throughout the day. Thoughts?

I went for it! I'll test throughout the day and see how he does. I wish that making the meter switch was easier to do...the numbers don't correlate at all!

Sorry, just seeing this and glad you went for it and can monitor today. When using a human meter, most of us will shoot anything over a 50 but, I understand when it's the first green number you shoot, it is nerve racking. But, shoot low to stay low . And you my dear, have deserved the coveted Balls of Steel which I present to you on behalf of the whole L & L forum.

Nice work Becky and Davis! You work that juice and mama bean will keep you surfing safe today:)

Your best way to deal with this is to put away the AT meter and use only the ReliOn to get used to the way it reads. Doing comparisons is frustrating and will make you be less sure of what you're doing.
That's exactly what I've done. I was driving myself nuts trying to figure out how they correlate to each other...but they really don't at all. AT2 is stashed away and I'm just using the Relion now. His +3 was 40 but he's roaring around with tons of energy, watching birds, picking on his brother and being his normal self. I will continue to watch...

Haha! Thank you! I did feel quite ballsy shooting such a low number. We've only been at this for 4 months so I'm still trying to get my bearings and do things safely with a healthy dose of paranoia mixed in haha!

I just saw Davis went low at 40. Are you doing anything to boost him back up over 50?

I also saw that you are doing SLGS .. we don't recommend you shoot under 90. I'm sorry that wasn't caught sooner. If he's higher tonight, he should get only 0.1u. Otherwise, skip and start anew in the morning.

I just gave him some food, I'll retest in a bit.

Is it possible to switch from SLGS to TR? I started with SLGS because I was not home to test at all this summer due to my travel schedule for work. But I'm home now and I can test more. I've read through the TR documents quite a few times and still haven't quite wrapped my mind around it...but I feel like we could do it.

Whew! Test again in 20-30 minutes.

Yes, you can switch from SLGS to TR. I did it myself. Update your signature so everyone understands you are doing TR.

If you have any questions about TR, ask!

Thank you! Signature has been changed. So is it safe to assume that since he got so low today, in the future I should not shoot if he's at or below 83?

I just did a reduction from .5 to .25 this week. Think I should go down to .1?

Yep, any number under 50 earns an automatic reduction. :) Great Job!

As for the nerve wrecking of shooting below 100, and then the paranoia? Just wait! You should check out Zeke's sheet this week lol. He has had a couple days where we were testing HOURLY! Pour kitty! Just ain't used to him staying in the lower numbers so I get more peace of mind testing more frequently. We been at this dance just a little longer, so I know how you're feeling. Was only a few weeks ago that we shot our first number under 100. It gets easier, but doesn't mean that we still don't panic at some of these numbers even though we shouldn't, lol.

That is not correct. We shoot anything over 50. You just learned that 0.25u was just too much for Davis. He's doing very, very well. Do 0.1u tonight! :)

I just saw something else in your signature - are you feeding dry? That's a no-no with TR. It takes longer to leave the system so we don't know if a BG number is being influenced by the dry food or if it's the true BG number. Wet food leaves the system quicker so within 2 hours of no food, we know that is the true BG number.

Yep, he did not do well on Young Again Zero so I switch to Dr. Elsy's. I have another cat who won't eat wet so the Dr. Elsy's is mostly for him, but Davis grabs a bite or two every day. So maybe I'll just stick to SLGS. Thanks for the clarification on just doing .1 tonight!

In that case, then your no-shoot number is below 90. Good luck with the 0.1u!! Just remember the 0.25u depot will hang around for a bit.
Great, thank you for the guidance, that's exactly what I need! We'll move down to 0.1u and I won't shoot below 90 again! Too much stress for my kitty-mama heart to handle anyway :)

Thanks for the help everyone. I finally got Davis up to 66! He doesn't seem to care a whole lot, he's way more interested in picking a fight with his brother and hunting a fly that just came in the house:D

My Rex couldn't care less when I caught him too low. That's awesome Davis is playful! :D

Wow!!! what a cycle and congrats on another reduction. He had no insulin yesterday and yet today's .25 proved to be too much. Still monitor him closely tonight as he will still be under the influence of the higher dose. He is looking so good and I think he want OTJ . :cat:
