Can someone who know there way around Vetsulin please have a look at Nippets SS. Whats going on with these numbers? Is she starting to regulate or just not needing as much insulin any longer?

Needs change but that's definitely a positive sign. Fingers crossed it continues

That 228 is much lower, I would only do 0.5. I fear 1 will bring her too low. You don't have any data at this level yet.
 
I had already given her 1U. I'll keep her with me for the next 4 hours and see what happens. If she drops too low, whats the first sign i should see? Or should i just start testing once an hour or go ahead and give her FF gravy just to stop her from going to low?

Well it probably won't kick in for two hours so I might check in 2-3 hours and see where she is. I wouldn't wait for a symptom... By the time you see symptoms it's an emergency situation. Better to steer falling numbers up then to wait until it's an emergency hypo situation. If it is dropping fairly quickly you would start by just feeding a bit of food or gravy from the gravy lovers.
Have you ever read/printed out our section on how to handle hypos? It's very helpful information. I'll be around in 2 hours... And I'm sure others will be too....so post if you get a reading that concerns you.
 
Overall I think your dose could come down a bit. Over 300 -350 I wouldn't do more than 1.
 
Ok. I'll test her again in 1 1/2 hours since i just did the 1 hour just to see if its moved. It did drop 10 points. I'll see where she is in that next test. I am just blown away on the vet having her on 4U per shot... I don't know if she would be here still if I would have done what he wanted me to do.

I was trying to take her down slowly. Making sure she handles it ok. I tried to move her once from 2 to 1 and next thing i see are numbers in the 400s. So i did a little at a time instead.
 
48. I gave her a can on chicken feast in gravy and about a half a tsp of syrup. Will retest in about 15 mins
 
I'm going to tag a few to get more eyes here. You still have a good 1-3 hours before hitting nadir. Please test again in about 10-15 min
 
Hi Julie! Let's get your girl up. Sorry, I scanned this thread, getting ready to go to bed, if you haven't all ready give your girl some HC food to bring her up. Velsulin has a fast hard drop so she should start coming up. After you give her some HC food, test her is 30 minutes. She should be higher and you want her to stay up over 50 for a few cycles with out any food influence to know that you are okay for the rest of this cycle.

Yes it was. But shes already back up. So now I'll just have to fight to get her back down. Tomorrow is another day :/ i already know her AM will be high, should i just wait and see how high she goes and base it off that on how much to give her (insulin that is)?
 
She will be high in the AM... I'm not pro like some of the others, but I wouldn't increase based on a bounce. If anything I would decrease her dose to help even out these bounces, but it looks like you use u-100s?? and I have no experience with those.

You gave her both a can of gravy food and syrup.... That was a bit of an over correction. A teaspoon or two of just the hc food would have been the suggestion. Basically you fed her a box of donuts. Haha. So that high number you are seeing right now may come down by preshot as she is still very food influenced right now and it will take awhile to process it.
 
I only said that because some do use u100s so they can REALLY dial in the dose, and from your SS that's what those doses looked like to me :)

Lol!! Well nothing wrong with a box of donuts every once in a while. But yeah i freaked and didnt know how fast everything would work so i just let her eat whatever. She ended up eating the whole can of FF gravy, with half syrup tsp on top of that and then she ate her can of chicken pate too........ so now shes laying at the foot of my bed in a food coma...... but i will say, she seems pretty content... not raising hell for more food. o_O

Ha ha well you can rest assured tonight that she's not too low and a happy cat. Hahaha!

100% agree! Thank you guys. I really feel like if it wasnt for me finding this forum, and i would have continued to give her the 4U twice a day that the vet said to, i would have lost her...
 
I would still get another test in an hour to make sure she's still on her way up. High carb food can wear off in a couple hours and you don't want her tumbling back down again.

I hurt my neck this morning and had to take some meds. I fell asleep. MISSED the +4. Did wake up enough to take the +5. It was 99. I'll see where shes at in about 2.5 hours. She will be due her PM in 3 hours.
