Hi guys! I think I have the format correct for my post.

Previously....

Starbuck reacted so well when I completed the switch from dry to canned food that her starting dosage of 2 units lantus is now too high. I am intending to follow SLGS. Soooo here's my question. You can clearly see on the chart she jumped down into green the same day I switched the food. I understand on the protocol you're supposed to earn a reduction when she gets into green. But the last 3 nights she hasn't come up again before the PM shot, and I'm afraid to shoot the blue ones, seeing as I'm so new. So I gave nothing, but that's not a long term solution because she pops right back up into high numbers in the morning. Last night you can see I gave a bitty dose, figuring it was better than nothing three nights in a row.

So what I'm asking is, if this pattern of me having to keep skipping shots continues, should I be taking a reduction, even though it's not on the protocol? I'm sure it's much better for her to have two smaller shots rather than shot-skip-shot-skip.

Edited to add that I work from home, so I'm not scared to shoot at lower numbers during the DAY. It's just they're all at night. :nailbiting:

If you're following SLGS you'd reduce the dose by 0.25 u as soon as you get a BG under 90. Your numbers right now are high enough to stay at 1.5 u. You'll have to get used to shooting lower PSs eventually but for now, stall about 20 minutes without feeding, retest and post here for advice. Use the blue question mark icon in front of your thread title and wording that attracts attention - eg. Stalling - need dosing advice!

I suggest you go read the SLGS guidelines again. It can take a while to absorb it all. :)

Last night I stalled for an hour & she barely went up at all. I see now I might as well have just given her the 1.5. As you can see from all the tests, I didn't really sleep anyway!

Hey look! 87! So now my whole post is pointless because I'm going to reduce to 1.25 anyway.

Hopefully getting closer to the dose she needs to stay more level AND let me give her the shot at night.

I'd get a +6 just to make sure that Starbuck isn't still dropping.

Can you put the type of meter you are using in your signature? A human meter or a pet meter?

Oh! Yes, it's on the spreadsheet, but I'll add it. It's a human meter. I'll get another test in an hour. She also hasn't eaten since breakfast because she's been asleep all morning, even through the blood tests. Haha

The one other thing we usually do for our posts is to include a link to the previous one, so people can follow on with any previous comments. Here is the link to your last one here: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/new-with-worries-about-dosage.183359/
Just copy the URL address of the old post, select the icon in the text box that looks like a chain link, then past the address in there. For a fancy version, type the words you want to be the link, just as Last post here, highlight the words, then hit the chain link icon.

She's slowing down a lot, maybe even surfing. I'd give her a couple tsps of her regular low carb food to encourage the surf. The longer she is in these nice normal but safe numbers, the more her pancreas will heal. :) We get worried and give high carb food when they get below 50.

Thank you! Fixed my post! She's eating some wet food now. I hope, unlike the past few days, she goes back UP at the end of the cycle. She hasn't been doing that.

Argh, same as the last 3 nights, she's lower than I'm comfortable with. I can't keep skipping the shot! But when I stall she rarely goes up much. And I was up too much of the night last night. Was going to give her 1.25. Anyone around with advice?

I FULLY REALIZE I'll never find her dose if I keep skipping the PM shot because I'm scared. But I want to actually sleep tonight.

If you can monitor tonight, another option is a reduced dose. Or stall, do not feed and see if she will come up to a number you are Ok with.

What number are you comfortable shooting? You have shot 182. Maybe 160 is OK now?

I only shot the 182 because it was during the day. I think I'm going to wimp out & try again tomorrow with the reduced dose. My problem is she's so new, I don't feel like I have good data yet? And unfortunately I have plans tomorrow & need to sleep. :-/

On the other hand, I can't be too upset, because she did have a good healthy day.

As long as she's not prone to ketones, which I hope you are testing for, skipping is an OK option. She definitely started out on too high a dose. It's a lot easier to start low and increase.

When she was diagnosed she didn't have any. The vet thinks we caught it early. Thanks for your help! The 2 units was barely working until I cut out dry food. Now it's obviously too much. I feel like kind of a failure, but oh well.
