Hey! I have a 5 year old domestic longhair named Boots, who was diagnosed with diabetes in May. He'd been showing signs for quite a bit before that, but we thought he just had an attitude :P (inappropriate elimination, etc.) He lost most muscle tone and strength in his hind legs, and walks similarly to a rabbit- however, his gait is improving! He's on Lantus, and we just recently switched his dose to 2 units twice a day. He eats Iams dry food, and we're switching him from Friskies Wet to Fancy Feast as of current.
I'm a newbie here, but I'd love to get to know some people and get some support! <3

Glad you're switching food! The iams is a no no.

Add vitamin b 12 methylcobalamin to help with the neuropathy.

Welcome

Hi and welcome!!

Glad you are here, ask all you want, and since he's on lantus you may want to read the stickies on the Lantus/Levemir forum they have a lot of very useful information this is the link to the forum

http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/lantus-glargine-levemir-detemir.9/

Also you may want to post there since there you'll find a lot of people with experience using Lantus

Are you home testing?, if not since you are changing food and that can cause a big change in his numbers you should start doing it
