I have big ambitions for this weekend, which include getting Taffy's SS up to date! I am so exhausted this past couple of months.

Right now, I just have quick question. I consented to a Convenia shot this past Monday, for conjunctivitis (in addtion to ointments). I was reluctant, but I am doing so many things to this kitty every day, that I didn't want to add more stress with pilling or icky liquid. Any, it's done. I also upped his dose on Tues. His numbers are running high still. He usually responds to increase pretty quickly.

Anyone have experience where Convenia affected blood sugars?

Sometimes it makes sense to give the shot. I don't know if it raises BG, but it is an antibiotic, so it's possible. I hope it helps Taffy feel better soon. Sending prayers.

I don't know whether or not it will do any good for conjunctivitis; it's designed to be used in dogs for skin infections. It may not be the right kind of AB to treat Taffy's eye problem. That said, for your and Taffy's sake, I hope it does!

I know, I don't think it has helped his eyes at all. I wondered about that, but I felt like the vet would think I was paranoid if I refused and it seemed easy at the time. I'm torturing Taffy so much with so many things, seemed like it was okay at the time. Now I wish I had rejected the Convenia, but it's too late now. I'm always torn between following the doctors directions (for once) or finding alternatives. He had the shot. His eyes are still bothering him. Now we deal with any negative effects of the shot. Onward!

If he hasn't shown any ill effects from the Convenia by now, he's probably okay with it. However, do be cautious if the vet wants to give it again in the future - just because he didn't have a bad reaction this time doesn't mean it can't happen in the future. I made my vet write NO CONVENIA in big red letters on all my kitties' files; I think the vet thinks I'm crazy, lol, but at least he knows where I stand on it! I don't understand why vets are so quick to give it, it's usually not even an indicated AB for most of the things they give it for!
