Yesterday was interesting, what with Keena hurling 2 of his meals that had the raw food. The other 3 cats act like they don't know it's even in their dishes. Then we take in a 70 pound dog last evening for the week that has never been around cats before. Oh, what good timing.

This morning, Rex, Tanner, and Precious got their small serving of raw food mixed in with their food. Keena had regular food. However, I did see him clean another dish so it's possible he may have had a taste. He was fine when I left for work. I'll try a little raw food again for Keena when I get home in an hour.

I got results back on Tanner's f-PLI test from TAMU and he's positive for pancreatitis (16.0 ug/L on the range of 0 to 3.5 ug/L). His cobalamin test was >1000 ng/L on the range of 290-1500. His folate test was good, too, with 18.4 ug/L on the range of 9.7-21.6. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Sorry it's pancreatitis but the way things have gone around here I'm glad you have a diagnosis. Treatment is to control the symptoms and get him feeling good. So for Max that meant ondansetron for nausea. Many use cerenia. Make sure he eats at least 3/4 of what he usually eats. If at all dehydrated fluids help providing no other condition that means it's not a good idea. If he appears in pain and good luck figuring it out, buprephenomine is the drug of choice. They hide pain so well. See what works for him and don't stop support too quickly. I also sometimes would give cyproheptadine to jump start his eating but only if the nausea medication didn't work after a couple of doses. :bighug:

Thank you. Tanner is an expert at hiding pain then. He hasn't stopped eating. He eats almost as much as the other cats, but they are over 10 pounds (Rex is 15 pounds). He doesn't do the hunching. I haven't seen any diarrhea. I have seen 2 bouts of vomit, but as I noted on the SS, not sure who and Rex's BG was always higher. Tanner is grooming the other cats, but not himself - is that a symptom? He's constantly matting so I have to force him to let me brush the mats out or they get worse. Will raw food diet help?

Hi Mandy - for Murphy, who had many bouts of pancreatitis before I knew what it was, and before his FD dx, cerenia has been the most important drug - it is both an anti-emetic and is antiinflammatory for the pancreas. Murphy gets 4 mg of cerenia a day daily for 5 days, then I skip a day, then repeat. When he is having a relapse, I increase the dose to 8 mgm. Ondansteron (developed for humans on chemotherapy) is a great drug for nausea - whenever Murphy doesn't eat right at mealtime, I immediately give him ondansteron. If he still doesn't eat, I give him cyproheptadine as an appetite stimulant. This past bout of pancreatitis that just wont' go away, I have been much more liberal on the pain med (bupe) - and fluids are also very important. Also, small, frequent meals during a bout

This sure doesn't sound like pancreatitis to me. Remind me what symptoms brought you to the vet.

Thank you! I've been saying this for a while. However, he had a PLI test at TAMU done and it came back today extremely high. 16.0 ug/L (0-3.5 range)

What started all of this was his regular checkup and he had lost 1.5 pounds since last summer. He lost 5 more ounces in the past month so it's 1.75 pounds altogether. IBD and lymphoma were suspected. Ultrasound didn't show anything so I did the PLI and the folate and the cobalamin tests. The last 2 tests came back normal.

He's hyper-t right? Is he in the right range? Not my specialty. One of the few cat diseases I haven't dealt with so far and that's just with three cats! There's been talk that other diseases such as that, CKD, and diabetes can make the tests come back wrong. BTW, 16 isn't extremely high. Max came back over 50 more than once. Your boy just doesn't have normal pancreatitis symptoms. Something has to be making him lose weight but I don't know what. Sorry. :bighug:

50

Tanner was hyperT until 3.5 years ago when he had i131 done. He went hypOt afterwards. He's in range. If he wasn't, he should be gaining weight, not losing. He's stage 2 for kidney disease, but it's only 2.3 and he has been stable for 5 years.

Update on the night meal, Keena didn't want his dish even though his piece was tiny compared to the others. But then he decided to eat and he's fine. :) Slow progress, but it's working!
