Just went it looks like he's coming down......AMPS 407 shooting 2.25u
Thought about increasing his dose. But I would like to give the antibiotics a chance to work. Yesterday I thought that they were. Today.....not so much. :(

Boomer ate all of his overnight fuds and he ate all by himself. I woke up at 5:00 and he immediately jumped up beside me and stretched out....he hasn't slept with me for a few days (at least not to my knowledge).
Allen also ate well overnight.

Yesterday DH and I went for a walk at one of our local spots along the river. We had heard that there was a giant egret as well as a blue heron hanging out. We never saw the egret but saw the blue heron fly in and land and as an added bonus she had two young ones with her! Our river isn't very wide so we were able to get some decent shots. We also saw a double breasted cormorant. Much more productive than the previous two walks have been. No pictures yet; perhaps I'll edit some today.

Hoping it was a high before a low today Judy. Honestly I wouldn't wait much longer to increase if he doesn't come back down regardless of the AB. You are experienced enough to manage his numbers. Being stuck up on the higher floors too long will only create the need to go up in dose. Then again, you do have the dental in a few days.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh Boomer, please head back down. I think the AB has been on board long enough that it should be fighting any infections. Maybe it's like Karen said, the high before the low, Bubba used to do that. I agree with Karen to not let him sit in these numbers long.

Yeah the dental  I haven't spoken to the surgeon's office yet but if he is allowed to eat until 5:00 am Friday (which is what Dr Larry allows) then I will likely give 1/2 shot Thursday night. No shot Friday. And because he tends to drop low for a couple of days after the dental AND we will be away on labour day sunday from around +2 until at least PMPS, chances are I will not be restarting insulin until Sunday night (unless we're very late then it will be Monday morning).
sigh
Oh and I will need help with a starting dose after the dental....I know I screwed it up last time
I thought for sure yesterday from +6 to PMPS that the antibiotics were helping. But then this AMPS!

Down you go towards the beach, Deputy Boomer. You aren't much help up there in the trees! Hope you make it to the guard chair by this afternoon.

Judy, I feel your frustration. I hope the dental will do the trick. You have your plan and we are sending vines for Friday already,

Hang in there. Neat that you got to see the Great Blue Heron with her young!

2.25 units, if that is still your current dose. With extractions there can be inflammation that raises the BG. When Neko had extractions, I had to increase for part of a week. The "dental effect" to lower her dose, didn't happen until 10 days leater.

It's not like he's in any danger at these numbers. Unless he gives you a low blue preshot, I'd be inclinded to go full dose the night before, as you'll be able to feed him. Ask the vet how much they'll be monitoring BG during the day. You might be OK with a 1/2 shot Friday morning, especially if he sticks to the kind of numbers he's giving you lately. When he gets home on Friday, test him when he gets home, then at shot time. More Canadian vets are using the anethesia induction drugs which do not lower the BGs. Especially if you are getting the work done by a specialist. Unless his mouth is really sore and he's not eating, I would be giving full dose. Friday night 1/2 dose if he's not eating much. And I'd do full dose on Saturday for sure. If he goes 2.5 days without insulin, the depot will be gone.

Thanks Wendy! Last time he had a dental his bg did go way up during the dental but dropped dramatically and was well into green by what would have been PM +3 because stress brings Boomer's levels down (although I would be extremely surprised if he's green this time). My problem is the Sunday after the dental because we will be away from about +6 until PMPS or slightly later. I guess I will see what happens with his BGs.
