? Essential oil question

Just double checking ... I couldn't find feliway, but found Sentry calming spray. It has lavender chamomile fragrance. Is this safe? The lavender oil comment has me concerned. Has anyone used this brand instead of feliway?

feliway is non scented to humans. Were you loooking for scents to calm you or to calm your cat?
 
@Chubba - Feliway is available on Amazon. I wouldn't risk the use of anything with lavender. Feliway does come in a spray as well as a diffuser. You can also take a look at Rescue Remedy or Jackson Galaxy has a product line that is cat-safe.
 
I was searching for the feliway spray at local stores and couldn't find it. He is going to a vet farther away this week, so I don't have time to order off of amazon, which is why I bought the Sentry Calming Spray (local petco had it). I haven't opened it yet, so maybe I will just return it. I didn't know about lavender until I just read this post. Just not sure what to do about this weeks vet trip.

I don't, but could always sign up for the free trial. However, his appointment is probably tomorrow. They told me to call in the morning cause they expect their to be cancelations.
 
My vet's reception was using a diffuser yesterday with lavender.
DH just dug up some of our oils used in our hot tub.....I told him that I was still looking into the toxicity of the smell and didn't realize he had actually started to simmer them. And I had a serious headache come on. The label on the bottle is very faded but I believe the smell to be eucalyptus. Well hopefully it's not toxic to my fur babies. sigh.

ok well it won't get there THAT fast. I'm surprised no pet stores like petco have something like that locally. It's always more expensive then through amazon, but they usually have it. Maybe you can call a few places and ask before making the trip to a store.
 
the sentry ones are made for pets and are probably fine. I'd say just use it.
Thundershirt spray is another one. That and feliway are available at Pet Smart by me.

I am thinking maybe they did have it. They had Comfort Zone with feliway (might have just been for diffusers). I thought that was something different though because the bottle I saw online just said Feliway. Is there a difference?

my partner has asthma and I have it seasonally... we have three of them plugged in and never had a problem from them. Probably only people with sever asthma have a problem.

Good to know. Glad it didn't effect your partner. I do have to say that I have mild asthma and when I would use the spray, it always made me cough. But, that said, I continued to use it because it does help stressed kitties.
 
I play around with essential oils a bit, but I'm very new to it. A number of oils are very toxic to cats; others are safe. Aside from tea tree oil and peppermint oil as being very toxic to cats, I don't know what else is on the list, but I am sure it's more than just those two that are toxic to cats. I would definitely look further into it before using the diffuser. I have a diffuser but haven't used it yet because I've been too lazy to research it so far :oops::oops::rolleyes:. I mainly use the oils to blend my own perfumes - and then apply the perfumes so that my clothing covers them and the kitties don't have easy access.

Because the oils are so concentrated something that is not normally a problem can become so with the oils.

I have an infuser and I will still use some of the "bad" oils, but only in a room where my Maxie doesn't go and I dilute the amount I use plus make sure that I have washed my hands well before touching her. Still not the best approach but I try to be very cautious with ANY essential oils.
