What a bummer day. Titan has been Dx with acromegaly. His number is 255. Vet is 95% sure he is positive without doing a CT scan. This could explain why we have been having issues getting him below 400 on his BG. Now its tyme to learn all about acro. We get to post in two ISG forums :(. At least I won't panic if we have to go into big doses. Peace to all.

Sorry about the Acro dx- at least now you know what you're dealing with. I doubt there is s better place for a HD kitty to be than here. Tons of 'tribal knowledge'

Was Titan also tested for IAA?

You don't have to post fully in 2 forums; you can post details in a condo on the HD forum, open a condo in L&LL and in there place a link to your HD condo - or vice verse.

There is very exciting news for Acro cats here- have a look.

It's better to know now you can start to manage it:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
This is the best place to be you will get excellent guidance;)

This could explain why we have been having issues getting him below 400 on his BG.
That plus lowering his dose a few weeks ago. Although there are some acros with much smaller doses, most of the people here wait until their cat gets to 6.0 units before getting the tests done. It's good to know what you are dealing with.

There are a number of us here with acrocats. Feel free to ask questions.

So sorry for the diagnosis but Titan is not alone. There are bunch of us with acrocats that can answer any questions you may have. Wendy has great knowledge in this area and has been extremely helpful. Seems there were only a handful of acrocats here a few months ago and now we are in double digits, our gang is getting bigger and bigger each week. More eyes are in this forum, so better to post here.

Thanks all for the responses, I'm upbeat we can manage this. Titan is feeling well, eating and interacting with his brothers. I'll check with the vet about his IAA test it was done thru U of Mich so I assume ( I know that's bad) the number is available. Vet and us are getting educated, she is checking with the U of Minnesota on Monday. Funny thing is I had to push for the test as I suspected Acro due to the threads/posts on here. She was hesitant to do the Acro test but yesterday spent 40 minutes on the phone with me as we discussed going forward. Oh well today is day one of the new Dx and here's to our big gulper:cat:

Sorry for the diagnosis. There is a wealth of information here as well as exciting news about cabergoline for treating acro. You really don't need to post in two places. It's my impression that the high dose forum is not terribly busy and most of the HD kitties are using either Lantus or Lev. If this forum feels like "home," we certainly want you to stay! It may help to post a note letting people in HD know about the diagnosis but you are welcome to continue posting here.

Hello and yes there seems to be a growing number of Acro kitties. My Beenie was diagnosed this week as well. You're in the right place! There really are more eyes on this forum so posting here would be best. Best of luck to you and Titan, who by the way is such a cutie with those big eyes :cat:

Welcome to the acro club. Not the place you wanted to be but this is the best place for you and your sweet kitty. Ask a lot of questions. There is great support on this forum. My Lily is also an acro cat. At one time her insulin dosage was over 50 units. It is now down in the 30s. I test a lot as you can see by Lily's spreadsheet. Our vet also does not know a lot about acro, in fact she told me that Lily is the only kitty at her practice who has been diagnosed with acro. I believe thats just because the other kitties haven't been tested. So this forum has been a godsend for me.

Hi I am sorry about the diagnosis, I know how that is. Like you I had pushed for the test and Marvin which confirmed he has acromegaly. I was sad about the dx but relieved at the same time as I had the facts needed to understand why he wasn't reacting to the insulin, and what my option were to help him. Marvin is doing really well, he is the kitty who is tried the trial drug and went OTJ. This forum was a life saver for both myself and Marvin. As bronx dad mention there are a lot more acros here in the last few months, so there is lots of support and great knowledge here. If you have question just ask. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
