Hi all, any ideas how can we stop the bouncing? We know it is as bad as the high numbers and we are out of ideas.....every time Toro hits yellow or blue goes bouncing for the next 48 hours or so. We know it's part of the cycle but it seems like will never stop bouncing. Shall we stay on the same dose longer than 7-10 days? Shall we start a bigger dose every 5-7 days? Thank you.

Bouncing is very frustrating and hard to control. Sometimes feeding a small snack at +2 or +3 if a BG test then shows a significant drop can help. Sometimes the bouncing gets less pronounced when you get to a dose that gives you lower numbers - ie., many more blues and dark greens. Some cats eventually stop bouncing on their own and some never do but go into remission regardless. There are no easy answers.

On this post here, you mentioned you are following the SLGS method for dosing. Do you might putting SLGS in your signature, so we can stop asking. Which dosing method you follow determines how we answer your dosing questions.

According to SLGS, you hold a dose for 7 days. Today is day 4. Then you do a curve and evaluate what to do with the dose. So for now, maintain the same dose and evaluate it in 3 days time. The decision on what to do with the dose is based on the nadirs you see and has nothing to do with bouncing. Which is a pretty normal thing we see with most relatively newly diagnosed cats, and some that have been long term diabetic.

As for bouncing, there isn't alot you can do. As the cat spends more time in normal blood glucose values, it gets used to them and stops bouncing as much. But how long it takes a cat to get used to normal numbers depends a lot on the individual cat.

Girlie bounced and bounced - then looked good - then bounced - and so on. I'm with you there on how frustrating it is! Do you check for ketones doing a Urinalysis? I do that for Girlie, especially as she's had such high numbers for so long. Good, good luck! :-)

Thank you, patience is something we have to learn. :-( We appreciate your help. I'll add SLGS on our signature.

I have little patience right now, but have no choice! Her body does what it wants to do. She was diagnosed on 20 June, so I'm with you on how hard this is - and how confusing, too!

Your cat's profile pic is beautiful - gorgeous cat. :)

I found feeding several small meals helped. Max bounced for a year! It did eventually become tightly controlled.
Good suggestion. Girlie is a nibbler, but she regularly goes for food every two hours, which is perfect. She's picky, though, so when I see her eat a certain way, i know she's dropping. Then I can adjust her food to make sure she doesn't do a dramatic dive that then sets off yet another bounce.
