+3 = 413
+4.75 = 338

AMPS = 269

After last night's extreme bounce, I'll take an amps of 269. Heck I'd take that amps number any day. Hoping that is a sign of good things to come today! Shot 9 units through the bounce last night and reduced to 8.75 units this morning. With the way he was coming down last night, I was trying to decide on a number where I would reduce to 8.5 instead of 8.75. Never really came up with one, but that 269 made me think for a minute this morning, but I decided to go with 8.75.:nailbiting: Only 1 pile of diarrhea in LB this morning (instead of 2) ... I think it's gonna be a good day! :p
 
That was a lovely cycle yesterday, spent quite a bit of time in blue/green, not surprising he bounced, with any luck if he starts spending more time in blue/green range his bounces will be less extreme.

Nice start with that yellow, lets hope its a sign that he plans to head to the beach later on, (anti jinx) .

Less of the rainbow kitty please Gizmo.

Boy was I wrong on that statement.

+2 = 317
+5.5 = 192 (meter wasn't quite ready yet, so I retested to make sure - 153)

So, Gizmo's numbers are looking really good considering the bounce last night. His diarrhea seems to be getting a little more solid. However, his regular vet's office called and left a message (we saw his +2 and went to the store). They basically wished us good luck and didn't understand what else we needed from them. We explained that we just wanted a second opinion and don't want to see that vet on a regular basis. The lady (vet never called) said that the vet said there is nothing more he can do for Gizmo. They agreed that we could see another vet in the practice, but not until the end of sept. When we asked if they would at least do the urine test, she said if we ordered it I don't see why we wouldn't. We explained that their vet didn't order it and basically didn't get an answer. I have been in tears since we have gotten back over this. I'm so frustrated! We have 1 other vet that is farther away. They seemed very nice on the phone, but I don't want to waste any more money. What is the best way to go about interviewing a vet? I don't foresee any high dose testing in Gizmo's future. At this point, I'm not even sure where I'm going to get his prescriptions from. I know I'm probably over reacting and that this will all work out, but geesh!

Thanks. I'll look also. I'm not going to be productive at doing much else anyways.

Great thanks. I am currently reading another interesting thread. Is it uncommon to go to the vets office and actually talk with them in person without my cat. That is kinda what I want to do, but it seems strange.
 
Oh man I hope you find a vet that is a little more accommodating. It seems quite a few of the big gulpers have issues getting the high dose condition testing. @Susan G & Jimmy G had problems recently. I had some issues with my vet but finally after 4 weeks got the blood work drawn and sent to MSU this week. It appears that most vets just aren't familiar with these conditions and don't think the testing is necessary. No clue why, if a per parent requests it and is paying for it there should be no resistance. :rolleyes:

It all always works out but sometimes getting to that end point can be difficult.:bighug::bighug:
 
Vets over a certain age were taught "this is acromegaly, it is so rare you'll never see it", so they promptly went to sleep in class. :p I have had better luck with younger vets, or ones recently trained in Europe (Belguim/England). It's most important to find a vet that will work with you and is willing to learn. My vet too was clueless about acromegaly, and admitted it, but was willing to consult with an IM vet and learn. That's why we stayed with her. There is so much new happening in vet research, it's impossible for them to keep on top of everything. Neko's acupuncture vet was awesome. She found out Neko was acro and read several articles on it before our first visit. :) Turns out she might have had an acro stray at home she ended up adopting many years ago.

I think there is nothing wrong with requesting a 10 minutes phone call "interview" with a vet. If they say no, that also says something. Or maybe try the visit - it would be good to see what the clinic looks like.

Yup, their is nothing more they can or will do. They are stuck. :banghead:

so first vet that showed up is gizmo's current vet. Others were over 30-40 miles away. :banghead::(

This is actually the thread I was reading. Unfortunately, it shows me I'm not alone in my frustration.

I know, right. I just don't get it. we have many animals and visit the vet often. Oh well, moving on ...

So the other vet in my area just said no to me talking to the vet or visiting the clinic. Yikes! Thanks for saving me time and money.

I just spoke with an extremely nice receptionist from a clinic about 35-40 minutes away. She is worried about Gizmo being on a high dose, but was willing to talk with the doctors about him. Since they were all seeing patients at the moment, she is going to have one call me back later today. Not sure if they will see him ... might want to send him to a specialist. But praying they can since they are closer than the specialist and sound like they actually care. No problem with talking to a vet or visits!
