TempestsMum

for those following Chesters progress, AJay has asked me to post an update. @AJay

Chester has been admitted to hospital again this evening. High temp and dehydration. The vet doesn't sound too positive so he needs all the healing vines and prayers we have. :(

Thanks guys.. all very stressful :( Just spoken to vet. He's on IV fluids n antibiotics.
Rosie (his normal vet) will call in the morning and we can have a further chat.
On a positive note.. his thyroid panel came back clear and he's eaten a bit tonight.

Now to figure out why he goes downhill without fluids... :(

All vibes muchly appreciated *Lionheart and devoted hooman*

I'm so sorry to hear he's having such a rough time, poor little guy. Sending tons and tons of prayers and healing vines for him, and his mama, too.

So sorry to see Chester‘s back in hospital! Sending healing vines to Lionheart & :bighug::bighug::bighug:for you AJay. All paws fingers and toes crossed here!

Update on Chester.

Vet has just phoned. He's responded to the IV fluids and antibiotics. Temp is normal. He's eaten well and been to the loo. Faeces still very soft :( BG at 25. Didn't mention keytones

Rosie said he was very flat and disinterested when she had him out to change the dressings on his legs etc. I'm guessing cannula site.

She is going to run another mini blood panel to check kidney levels and do an x ray to see if there's anything they can see.

IF it's worth a try (i.e. Not a hopeless case ) I've suggested doing sub cue fluids at home. Yes he's got multiple things going on with him but is it a matter of buying him time to sort himself out?

My heart is hurting right now for a soul I've not known long :( 3 out of 4 of my cats have surrounded me in support (I hope)

Rosie will call later to let me know what if anything they have found.

I'll go around later to see Ches and give him a gentle cuddle.

Update:
Hi all
Just seen Chessie today. He's still quiet, eating well, electrolytes starting to normalise. Bg's still high so vet is increasing dose to 2u.
Plan is for him to finish his IV tonight, test and see how he goes off drip. My feeling is that he won't maintain hydration :( Or would that be related to the high numbers bg and now she's increased the dose, he might do better?

Question is... and I need a bit of help here please. I know what the vet would do all things considered :( and I'm fighting that!

I've suggested sub cue fluids at home to try to support his fluid intake, even though that is primarily for kidneys and his are fine. I'm absolutely fine to try home nursing if that's an option.

Vet has query on Triaditus. That's only possible to confirm by biopsy and he's not a candidate for that. I've gently suggested (as he has many of the symptoms bar vomiting) that we treat as for that. He clearly has an issue with his digestion - undigested food in faeces , very soft, very sensitive tum etc... All classic IBD. Prone to anaemia etc...

Question is... what now? :'(

Seems every time he comes off IV fluid support he goes downhill? :( Ideas? :(

How is his heart?
SQF may not be good idea if he has heart problem

My cat was suspected to have triadities after her DKA episode. No money for biopsy. Nursed at home to norm. It was intense but we did it.

Poor Ches! Many healing vines for your boy!:bighug:

@Tanya and Ducia
Thanks :) Heart is fine :) Just all the other symptoms. He has put on weight from being weighed on his first admission to the next (1week). He's gone from 2.7kg to 2.85. Not much, but any is better than none.

So frustrating and worrying. He had a big bag of chicken from me tonight with Slippery Elm on it. Hopefully they'll tell me his faeces have normalised overnight (how odd would that be? )

O and if anyone knows of anyone looking for a kidney or left limbs (I'm right handed...)...

Heart is fine
That's good - you can employ SQ fluids therapy at home. There is excellent tutorial video as to how to do it at home (I'll post it later) but I would first consult with @Marje and Gracie re: any other conditions Chester has might be prohibitive for SQF.

ECID, but my Ducia recovered from anemia, triaditis, suspected p-titis and jaundice at home by gaining weight on Friskies pates, SQF and some meds. + Lantus, of course.I have it all detailed in my SS/Remarks.

I'm absolutely fine to try home nursing if that's an option.
I think it is an option.
I know everyone on here will try to help as much as possible!
