? 8/19 Gobbles 310 amps 107 +6 Woke up vomiting with high BG

Hello all, I was awoken this morning at 5:45 by Gobbles maki g his usual stra ge vomit meow, then he vomited up a little foam, and peed in LB. Then he layed down looking very listless and worn out for about a half hour. I waited till 6:30 to check his BG as shot time was nearing. BG 310--he has not been that high for many months...he is regulated and usually in 100s. I gave him his 1 drop of insulin, the he drank lots of water then went into hiding. His lasik was due, but I am withholding it until he eats and i know he is keeping foid down. Respirations 28-32. He is currently on the lantus, lasik, enalapril, plavix and cyproheptadine. I started him on forta flora 30 billion yesterday be ause he has had diarrhea every day since starting the heart meds. I just cannot understand why his BG is so high, and am sure last night's insulin shot was not a furshot. Could be major stress. Any ideas really appreciated. Lantus 1 drop bid, lasik 6.25 bid, enalapril 2.5 1xday, plavix 18.75 1xday, cyproheptadine 1mg 1xday. I will get a ketone test today as i know high bg + not eating can lead to dka

It sounds like Gobbles doesn't feel good this morning. That could make his BG higher. Has he pooed recently? Some cats vomit when they are straining to poo. Just throwing out ideas. I hope you can figure out what is going on and get him feeling better. Sending prayers.

Any chance of getting mid cycle tests? Hard to say if this is a bounce, meds, or how Gobbles is feeling. I had to quite a bit of dose tweakings with Neko starting on heart meds.

Thanks for replying, Carla & Wendy. He is 107 at am+6. I've read more than once that enalapril can affect lantus...

So sorry you baby isn't feeling well. Sometimes the act of throwing up will raise the BG; that happened to Bubba this AM Also, diarrhea can make them run higher too if they are having discomfort along with it.

And as Wendy said, the heart meds are playing into it also. The foam vomit could be his tummy being empty. Do you offer any little snacks through out the PM cycle?

Hi there, heck--I feed him at least 6-8 times per day/night...always at least 3 small plates of food out, with fresh water....I have to water all his food down, like sauce--he likes it that way and is getting the extra fluid needed because he is taking Lasik and has the squishy poops. I gave him a small amount of probiotic (renew forta flora 30 billion) yesterday, but a former (sadly missed) FDMB member told me that it will not help him with the diarrhea, if it is caused by the heart med(s)...which makes sense. He finally did eat, so I gave him his Lasik at 9, then plavix at 1 pm....hates that pill (i did have it compounded into liquid and he hated it that way even more)--went to his "safe place" and is snoozing...respirations under 40, appy not great--I will probably administer the cypro before I give him the enalapril....ugh....he so dislikes taking medicine except for the lasik--compounded into a liquid fishy taste.

Try tracking when you give the meds in the cycle to see if you can see patterns. I know that @Doodles & Karen found injected Lasix impacted the BG but oral did not. Neko's benazapril had no impact, but it's a different ACE inhibitor. Neko took oral Lasix and plavix with no BG impact.

Wow you beat me! I was feeding 6 X day until right before Bubba lost remission after the dental procedure. Now I'm feeding every 6 hours or 4 times a day. The jury is out asto whether the new schedule impacts his cycle at all.
