Okay so I feel we successfully completed our first curve. Everyone has been so helpful and my cat is doing so much better since I've been here. So now I did the first curve I need some feedback as to where to go from here. What a far cry from my vet advice not that he's a bad vet mind you but he had me giving her three units twice a day and checking every other day at + 5. Essentially I was killing my cat until I came here so thank you thank you thank you

Congrats on doing the first curve. The numbers look good! Great that she is feeling better - how she is feeling overall is an important data point in addition to the numbers.

I would consider a .25 increase, but hope you get a couple reviews from more experienced people. I don't do SLGS and I see some comments from yesterday regarding the recent transition from dry that might still play in the picture so I hope others will share their comments.

Thank you..and overall..all 3 cats are acting like kittens again! I can not believe the difference since stopping dry food.

Hi Karen.

Nice work getting the curve done. Although things are definitely looking better, I agree that Govie could use a .25 increase. I'm assuming you already shot this morning? If so, you could start with the new dose tomorrow morning, if you will be able to monitor. Remember it can take up to six cycles to see how the new dose is affecting the BG - but ECID, so be prepared from the first shot.

Hey there and welcome to Lantus Land! Most of us here have stories about our vets and the same thing you said " not that they are bad vets" they are just not that knowledgeable in the way of Feline Diabetes. They get about 8 hours of instructions on FD and insulin use and a lot of peeps euthanize their kitties when they get the FD DX because they don't want to be confined to a shooting time or think that they just can't manage giving a needle and then a lot of peeps that are trying to treat their cats FD aren't even testing as most vets don't promote it.

So kudos to you for finding this wonderful forum and for learning all you can and testing and keeping your sweet baby girl safe. :cat::bighug:

You know I read somewhere on here that you get to a point after reading so very many things on this disease that's finally something clicks and you get it. Now, I had to go back and still do and reread but what a mother lode of info on this site and Caring Hearts to go with it. It's nice to know that no matter what I face I can post something here and within 15 minutes or less I will have not one but many responses. Several times and it always happens in the middle of the night I would have an issue that I'd call the 24-hour emergency vet in my area, minor things nothing major, and they just wanted me to bring her in instead of just telling me if I could give her for example Maalox for an upset stomach or something and mind you it's in the hundreds for a visit. So I could have a suffering cat and need some kind of advice in the middle of the night and can't get it which is very sad. God bless all of you and this site I can't say that enough

There is a lot of info here and a lot to absorb but, the good news is we are here for you and like you said, within a short amount of time someone responds and offers some knowledge or advice or even just comfort. We are all so very lucky to have one another. We are all here to help one another and those of us that are a bit further down the path of this sugar dance pay it forward.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how in an instance like this, where people from all over who don't know each other from a can of paint, can relate to each other and help each other and really care for each other like family. I will never understand, why anyone would not want to follow suit, considering the amount of turmoil and hatred going on in this world. Go figure I love this site
