The phosphorus content for Iandloveandyou's Wholly Cow on Dr. Pierson's food chart has always looked too good to be true to me. Today I got a dry matter and as fed analysis from the company. I've attached it to this post. It seems to me that the phosphorus is more like 287 mg per 100 kcal instead of 140 per 100 kcal. Of course there is a strong possibility that I am making a mistake in the calculation.

And does anyone know how to get to carbohydrates as a percentage of calories from carbohydrates as a percentage of dry matter?

I have no idea, but am interested in knowing the actual phosphorus value. This was one of the foods I was considering switching Gizmo to.

Google says protein and carbohydrates both contain 4 calories per gram while fat provides 9 calories per gram. I will check the carb content on the chart using these values later.

So for this one, using 47.96% protein, 36.96% fat and 15.08% carbs by dry weight
.4796*4+.3696*9+.1508*4=5.8480
.1508*4/5.8480=.10314637482900136798 = 10% carbs as percent of calories, not 3%.

I'm copying this to @Beth 73 and @Bronx's dad because they've also been interested in Wholly Cow.

I hope I am making a mistake, but...
Wholly Cow appears on the crf food chart as well, with the DMA numbers.

Now I get 295 mg per 100 kcal, still way more than 140. Better than Fancy Feast Classic pates though.

Percent dry matter times 85 grams per can
.2476*85=21.0460 grams of dry matter per can

Percent phosphorus of dry matter times dry matter in grams
.0130*21.0460=.27359800 grams phosphorus per can

Grams phosphorus divided by calories per can
.27359800/92.65=.00295302752293577981

That is .295 grams per 100 calories, or 295 mg per 100 calories.

It's possible I don't know what I'm doing.

Uggh, that is one of Bronx's go-to foods that I add to his regular stuff. He really likes it...figures. Thanks for letting us know!

I don't think my interpretation of the nutritional chart given to me by the company is correct.
The percent As Fed values sum to 99.92% without carbs.
The percent DMA values including the provided carb number sum to over 115%.
The DMA column carb number seems to be 100% - percent protein - percent fat.
That neglects the Ash etc in the DMA.

SO: my calculation could well all be wrong because the table is wrong or my interpretation of the table is wrong.

I will post again if I ever get to the bottom of this. I apologize for the confusion.
Maybe I should just trust Dr. Pierson's chart.
It just seemed too good to be true that there would be a low carb low phosphorus pate that Yum likes to eat.

Maybe these phos ratios will help determine what Wholly Co is, here is Dr Elsey's Clean Protien info I got today:

Turkey-1.46% = 282
Whitefish-1.50% = 288
Beef-1.17% = 224
Chicken-1.25% = 240
Salmon-1.58% = 304.

So Wholly Cow @ 1.30% phos is probably around 250mg/100kcal

I think I did post again about Wholly Cow, after this post. I contacted them and they said it was high phosphorus because it was high protein. On the phone they could not explain their numbers. I contacted Dr. Pierson and her helper was thinking of contacting the company. The carb number was also off.
