Last night a few hours after I gave Maggie her cipro for her UTI I noticed she was a little jumpy and twitchy. She also lost a bit of her appy for her evening micro meals. I think her tummy was a little upset. I can't give her antacid because of the cipro. During the day she's been acting normal, so any side effects so far are just shortly after taking the cipro at night.

Funny how it affects her differently at night.....any chance that her morning dose is on a full tummy and her evening dose isn't?

It is a once a day dosage, and I'm giving it right after the evening feeding following the BG test before injection.

hmmm. idk....most meds are better given after food is that what is recommended for this med?

Yes, that's what the pharmacist told me to do.

I believe you can still give probiotics while she's taking the cipro. Saccharomyces boulardii is one I've seen recommended. Sending prayers.

Thanks, I'll run that idea by the vet.

Vet says I can try giving a quarter of a tablet twice a day instead of half a tablet once a day and that might relieve some issues. Also said the probiotic would be fine.

Grabbed a +4 on the way to bed, but since it was 55 I fed Maggie and waited to test again in an hour. At +5 it was 41! Just fed some gravy and will test again soon.

So I guess she's earned a reducie. Only giving .25 right now, so if I understand correctly, I inject .1 for the reduction in the morning?

Saccharomyces boulardii

S. Boulardii is good if she has diarrhea. If it's just upset tummy, then other human probiotics will do. Here is a good page on probiotics with some brand names. Although it's a page for IBD cats, the principles are the same.

Congrats on catching that 41! So much for bed time. And yes, down to 0.1 unit. Good luck drawing that one.

Have you seen the pictorial on .1 from the sticky about drawing micro doses?

Consistency is more important than accuracy, so decide where .1 is on your syringes and try to hit that point every time. Good luck!
