Hello all,
I want to thank you all again for your advice and input. It was right on the money!

Spoke to my Vet today and she doesn't like the low numbers we've been seeing (and neither do I), so we are dropping down to 1 unit of Vetsulin, 2x day and I will do a curve next week so his body has a chance to get used to it. That's down from 5 units (when he was on higher carb food and more Prednisolone)! Changing his diet and decreasing his Prenisolone has helped tremendously and the Vet thinks his pancreas has recovered and is working better now too. She is wondering if he is going to need insulin at all!! I guess we'll see but I am so encouraged. Either that or he'll maybe just need an oral glucose.

It's been such a roller coaster since April and I have gotten weary a number of times but Tigger's more than worth it. Will keep you posted. I really appreciate you all and this group.

Very good news! Now is especially important to get his PS numbers with those lows, you won't want to dose him if he's in those mid 100's :)

You don't want to use the oral medications.....they work by forcing the pancreas to work harder to produce insulin which could damage it more.....Usually we will tell people to stay on insulin as long as possible to give the pancreas as much healing time as you can.....that means gradually reducing the dose (as long as he remains in normal numbers) until you're giving only .1.....or even less, 1 drop!

Good to know! Thanks.
