Hi folks!
What do you guys use to get your cat's coat looking healthy, shiny and flake free? I was given Dermascent by the Vet Dermatologist but it's only been week 1 of 4. Any other ideas? Thanks a ton.

It may just take a little time.....diabetic's coats are often pretty awful looking but once they're better regulated, it can make a big difference!

Take a look at China's Profile in my signature...I know you'll be able to see the difference

As others said regulating diabetes is the first step to achieve improvement in fur coat quality.
I give Rocky fish oils ( Krill oil), evening primrose oil, coconut oil and recently I have introduced pumpkin seed oils - these are especially good for boy cats. All supplements are high quality human supplements and in a capsule form as you want to prevent oxidation (these oils are prone to oxidative damage) as they are usually cheaper than anything designed specially for pets, they are more potent so you give less so they are more economical. If you really want pet supplements I would recommend Dr Mercola's pet products and his website for information.
I hope it helps but ask me any questions if you'd like more info.
Best regards,
Marlena :cat:

Which krill oil do you use? How much do you give? I had two different fish oil ones that were pet specific but I have a bad habit of forgetting them out on the counter and then they are trash.

At the moment I use BIOGLAN red krill oil (advanced omega-3) and I give one a day. Unfortunately they have vanilla flavour so might not be suitable for every kitty but Rocky doesn't mind. The ones with orange or lemon flavour are not good for kitties as they don't like citrus.
Sometimes I use BOOTS own brand which is very good and slightly cheaper.

What are the coconut and pumpkin seed oils good for?

I noticed a big difference in the coat of Chino and my civvie a few weeks after I started feeding this 3x/wk. 6 weeks before I started feeding it, he started having green nadirs at least twice a week, so getting his BG more regulated could've also made a difference. Chino's fur used to be dull and full of dandruff before he started reaching the normal range on a regular basis.

We use Dermascent for our civvie and it helps a lot, give it a little time. You can get it on Amazon for about half of wht you par at the vet. She gets Nordic Naturals Omega-3 oil too.
