Hey everyone! Made it back from vacation and trying to get Sam back into her routine. Plan on doing a curve today but had a few questions.

Sam likes to graze on her food and not eat it all in one sitting. I feed her 1 can of FF classic chicken for breakfast and dinner. She will usually eat half or less of the can and then come back and eat a little 2-3 more times throughout the day. I know she shouldn't eat 2 hours before a pre shot test. Should I pick up her food after she eats today for the curve or let her graze and test every +2 anyway? I think I know the answer but I would like some more experienced advice again. lol

Also, could you take a look at her SS and let me know what you think. It seems to me she needs a bigger dose but looked like she bounced pretty good when I went back up to .5 units.

Let her eat. The only tests you want no food is the preshots because you want to make sure she's high enough to shoot and that it's not falsely high from food. Otherwise for curves feed as you normally would.

I you want to try to push those mid cycle numbers into the blues. I'd go t0 0.5

Thanks Janet. That is what I thought but I wanted to make sure!

I may wait until next weekend to try the .5 units again that way I can do a curve and keep an eye on her. I doubt she would go hypo but I rather be safe.

Welcome back from vacation! Hope Cassie was feeling better for it :). You could try the fat 0.25U if you worry about 0.5U being too much again, right away.

I may do that. I'm curious to see what her curve looks like today.

Sam's number spiked from 215 at +10 to 262 at +12. She did go outside and eat grass and vomit it up. Could that "stress" cause her level to go up or do you think the insulin is wearing off that quickly. I gave her one little treat when I tested her at 3:30 but I don't think that would have made the jump to 262.

Should I bump her dosage to .5 tonight and run that a few days to see what happens? Her SS is current. @Yong @JanetNJ @Kris & Teasel

Honestly there's not much difference between those numbers. yes I would do 0.5

So, a 40 point difference isn't much? I have been getting inconsistent numbers from my Relion meter and it had me worried. The other day I tested and it was 291 and then I tested immediately after and got 254.

There's an allowed 20% variance in meter readings so this isn't surprising. A significant difference would be 100 points or more.

The "real" number was probably around 270.

It is possible when she vomited it "stressed" her a little. My boy did that after his 1st lunch today and he was higher at the later test but came back down for PS. :)

Man, that almost makes me want to run the AlphaTrak. Or, is it also allowed 20% variance just calibrated for pets?
Meter comparisons are a sure path to insanity! Just pick one meter and stick to it. Most people use a human meter and if its batteries aren't dying you can trust it. If you get a test that seems to be way off base, retest immediately - eg., a black in a lovely string of blues. No need to second guess every number though.

All meters have a variance. Alphatrak meters are calibrated for feline blood. The reading on That probably would have been in the neighborhood of 320-350.

She is at 129 this AMPS and I am stalling 15 minutes to see if she is rising. I want to give .5 to keep the schedule but no one will be home after another hour or so. Thoughts? I think her can of FF will keep her numbers high enough.

She went to 147 after 20 minutes so I gave her .5. I will go check on her at lunch. She seems to not start getting a drop until +6 or +7.

I think that's fine. Nice preshot

Thanks for chiming in. I was a little worried. Lol

Just tested her at +7 and she is at 227. In assuming she dropped lower than normal and then got a glucose dump. Curious to see what her PMPS is and I want to ride the .5 for a couple of days and ride out the bouncing.

What number would you say to not give her .5?

110-130 I might reduce to 0.25 remember human meters normal is 50-120. Someone with more ProZinc experience may have other ideas.
