Wow! Look at Chuck! I'm still really new to this whole depot thing. When a cat is on a higher dose like this, does the depot last, or hang around, longer than for a kitty on a lower dose? Or not since Chuck just burns through it so fast anyway?

The larger the dose, the larger the depot (once it fills completely) and the longer it takes to drain if a dose is missed or lowered. That's why there's lag time between a dose lowering or raising and the full effect of the new dose being evident.

The half unit difference on this big of a dose is like fine tuning or tweaking a dose to a fat or skinny, right?
So the up and down from 16 to 16.5 shouldn't have too much effect on the depot? Or is it still too risky to be changing it like it has been the last few cycles?
I'm trying to convince DH that we need to try 16.25 or 16.5 for both to see how it plays out.
We are about 4 months into our lantus journey and I'm still trying to understand the Depot completely.

We are starting to get some side effects of the gravy lovers. Chuck is gassy.
I'm going to try to get to the store to pick up a higher carb pate style later today.

Apparently there are some gravy types that use potato as a thickener and that might have less of a negative effect. Teasel doesn't tolerate the wheat gluten gravy types well either. That's why I resort to adding honey to his LC pate when needed.

Stella & Chewy's Salmon and Chicken is 23% carbs. And no gravy. Yup, I'm still bitter. But it does serve well in the hypo kit!

I think I still have some of this. I'll try it if we need a boost tonight.
PMPS 147
I gave him 16.25 units. I was tempted to give him 16.5 again because I'm still expecting that bounce! He ate pretty slow today. I had to call him to come for dinner. He usually is bothering me by +11 to feed him. I fed him and waited until he ate half of his food, then gave him his shot. He didn't eat all of it but will go back when he wants more.

I will try the honey with his pate too. I'm sure he won't think it's the greatest stuff on Earth like the gravy lovers! :joyful:

Nice cycle Chuck. :D If your DH insists on shooting 16 again tomorrow, I would stick with it so you can get some consistent dosing and stabilize the depot.

Weruva Grandma's Chicken Soup is 21% and carbs from potatoes. And lots of gravy. And it's low phosphorus. Their Cats in the Kitchen pouches have several options in the higher teens carbs, again carbs from potatoes. Quite a few have fish, but not all, which may be an issue for some kitties.

I'll see where I can get them around here. I showed DH the SS to prove that we need to stick with the same dose. He agreed to shoot what I tell him to!:woot: I'll take that as a "you were right!" LOL
