Post DKA Millie was recovering from a bounce. I decided to check her +2 this evening since she's been recovering quicker and going low on her 1.75 dose. I already took my evening meds that put me to sleep so I gave her a little HC food which she barely touched. I will probably be up due to the anxiety of her possibly going too low so I decided to post here. I will retest in 15 minutes.

I know she is post DKA twice but I feel that she might be due a reduction since she's gone low several times in the last week. Feedback?

I do think she's earned a reduction. Can you set alarms and sleep in between tests? Is there a food she really loves like baby food that you can add a little karo or honey to if she's not eating?

Right now I am awake but I can set an alarm. I didn't 'wait' to feed since it is late. Getting ready to test again.

Sorry, had to go downstairs to get her food and honey. Her bg was 43. She ate some HC food I put her treats in and I gave honey.

She's drinking a lot. I think I'll remove the water so she doesn't get full from it and refuse food. Will test in 20 minutes.

During her hospitalization I mentioned her .25 dosing and the vets were quite adamant about only doing .5. I guess it makes me nervous at sometimes (my anxiety gets the better of me, plus still new to such low numbers). But I do trust the Board and Millie is VERY sensitive and responds to the fine dosing.

I would be concerned as well. Better to stay vigilant with the testing and make sure she continues to be in good numbers well past her nadir.
That was a VERY big drop at +2. I would might check every half hour until above 85, then every hour until she has 2 consecutive that are rising and not HC influenced:bighug:

BG was 71, same as 30 minutes ago. She is sleeping and not interested in eating (she sleeps at night along with us). Tried encouraging her with treats but she's not interested. She's entering her +4 now.

Once she's "up" from being too low, as long as she's above 68 on the AlphaTrak, just stick with low carb food or none.....but keep testing for at least 2 hours after the low number.

We suggest that if they drop below 68, you give HC and then test 20-30 minutes later....as long as they're above 68, don't feed or only low carb and test again in 30 minutes.....if she's still OK then, no food or only low carb and test again an hour later.....so that she's stayed in safe numbers for at least 2 hours from the "low" without having any more HC food

If she drops too low again, repeat the HC and that 2 hour clock starts over....every time you have to intervene with HC or Karo/honey/syrup, that 2 hour clock resets

She just ate a lot of the HC food so I expect the reading in 30 minutes will be much higher.
