My 3 year old Maine coon was diagnosed with type 2 in June. He is currently at 4 units of prozinc twice a day after his last glucose curve last week. Unfortunately tonight had a lot of hiccups. My younger brother found some of his old food and fed him that instead of his new Evo dry. (We're working on transitioning to only wet tiki cat). And on top of that I got stuck at work and he missed his dose. He has never had ketones but I'm not sure what to do in this situation. I currently do not home test.

One missed dose shouldn't be a problem. You can resume tomorrow morning as usual. The effects of the high carb dry food should be gone by tomorrow.

Definitely recommend home testing and to help save money many of us use a human glucometer. Test strips are more affordable and they'll still tell you his patterns, if he's high, or if he's low. What area are you located? So I can post some meter suggestions :)

He is a pretty large cat at 20 pounds for his healthy weight so with prozincs weight ratio he is on par. I am located in Minnesota, I've been looking into alphatrack for a meter.

I love my alphatrack but be prepared to spend $150 a month in strips for it. If you need a cheaper option go with a human meter such as the relion micro or confirm.

Thanks for the info! This is very timely as our pet sitter didn't show up this morning while we were out of town, so the cat didn't get her insulin. We'll calm down & just give her the normal evening dose. Then look for a new pet sitter.
