This should be +5.5 test

That is still a safe number on a human meter. The dry food can sometimes take longer to "kick in". A little gravy and a bit of HC should kick the numbers up a bit

Anyone chiming in: Human meter
AMPS 12.7 fed and given 1.0U Caninsulin
  • +0.5 Vomit breakfast
  • fed more
  • Vomited some
  • +4.25 BG 5.8
  • +4.83 BG 4.1, fed 1T dry food
  • +5.33 vomit some
  • +5.67 BG 3.5, fed more dry food and little wet food with syrup
  • +6 next test

Ok it's a combination of quick acting syrup and the dry food is probably starting to kick in. Hold off on more food, and retest in about 20 minutes. Hopefully we're getting past nadir and he'll rise on his own. You're doing great, Delores :bighug:

Omg...thank you SOOO much for helping us thru this Yong...cat_wings>o

Just saw this! An Eek moment! You are doing everything right. And lots of folk here with you. I know how gut churning this is but he will be fine and the dry food will stay in his system longer and hold him up a bit. x

Talk about a diabetic crash course when your cat is 1st diagnosed! What an emotional rollercoaster! Thank God for you all or I would feel like a bottle of vodka...:nailbiting::bighug:

I felt like this guy the whole time! Never mind vodka, whiskey and Valium for the win! ;);) My whole introduction to insulin started with a hypo!

Just replace everything Christmassy with hypo, insulin, bg, testing and all that goes with it. Lol

  • +6 BG 8.9, no additional food
  • +6.33 BG 9.2, no additional food
No more food needed now, Delores. He's rising on his own :). Like I said it's probably the dry food kicking in now. Do one more test in 20 minutes with no more food given and if he's still rising or holding, you can retest in an hour :cat:

Ok once again ty all for your help here I will recheck in one hour... you all are better therapy than valium!:cat:

We'll still need to see one more test 20 minutes from the last to make sure he is still rising on his own. 3 test of rising numbers without food given, then you can wait an hour :). I think he'll be OK since the dry food is working so if you guys need a break, I'll check on you in 45 minutes at +7.75 (12:45 EST)

OK YONG!

OMG!
I read everything.
My take on this is that the situation wasn't as dangerous as it first appeared because we are talking about quite small doses of insulin. At first I was worried that Delores gave a much bigger dose by mistake. Mind you 1 unit on BG 12.7 might have been just a little too much. If Casey was throwing up that much it would explain a steep drop.
Delores, breath and stay calm, you handled it really well.
Sending hugs
Marlena

Oh looks like someone got your Spreadsheet for you :). Those numbers need to be entered in the World mmol/L tab though :) and Casey SS text can't be in the link itself. Link should start with https ;)

Yeh I did that and used the wrong sheet.I have since redone it to World/mmol!

I just took his BG and it reads 26.7. I am assuming that its the dry carbo food I gave him before it was suggested to mix a small amount of syrup into his regular wet food which he did eat.
You will see I kept his evening dose at 1U, my reasoning being that this am he threw up the wet food twice before it had a chance to be digested.I am hoping this was a rational choice; if you all dont think so please let me know and I can adjust it accordingly. Cant thank you all enough for helping me n Casey out with this :bighug: ; he is being a trooper with all the ear poking he's gotten today tho I AM h:cat:appy to say he is adjusting to it better than I am:cat:

I would say that's the case, it can take a while for dry food to clear. :)

I can't read your SS for some reason  probably just me as others can see it.

You seem to be doing just fine!!

Correct, it was probably the dry food and he was probably going to bounce after the lower numbers today. The syrup should only last about 20-30 minutes, hence why we say to retest in 20 minute increments when using syrup.

Sometimes kitty's can be a little more insulin sensitive and it's why I suggested posting your PMPS here before feeding and insulin. Was thinking you may have wanted to do a slightly reduced dose after today's excitement .

Also, I can't see your SS anymore

Ok I will try posting the SS again....and trying a .75 dose in the am after testing.

I can't see it either. says the file doesn't exist. She may have to fix the url link

I know you've done a lot of testing today but make sure to get a reading no later than +3 tonight so we can see where he's going on 1.0U again :). Hopefully, you won't have to have a PJ party tonight

OMG NO Diabetic cat pj parties hopefully... i will def check him at +3 hrs.I think Casey and I are both beyond tired now...but I can see our routine happening and that's a good thing!:p

Ok I can see SS again :) but all the numbers are on the US tab . They need to be on World tab ;) and should automatically convert.

Ok I promise I am clicking the World Tab link...could I maybe need to delete the US SS I used originally since it keeps coming up US?

Delores

You did a great job today!!!

Good work getting your spreadsheet up. Leave the US sheet so that people in the US can understand the numbers....since the US glucose readings are different than our Canadian readings. One other thing you could do is to add Caninsulin to your signature so that anyone reading it will know what type of insulin you are using and won't have to ask. Casey is doing very well on the lower dose of insulin.

Your Casey reminds me so much of my Tuxie who passed away a couple of months ago. Beautiful boy!!!

don't get rid of the tab, just delete the info in there... then go to the world tab and re type it in there.

Try deleting all the values on the US table and enter them on the world tab.

Ok think I figured it out...when you go to look at the SS in World mmol...you have to click that box to see the info it allows u to see the numbers in US or World! this worked for me this time!

No don't delete it but we'll have to figure out why they're not staying on your World tab and converting on the US one :bookworm:
Its working now...you just click the world tab next to the US tab..this way you get BOTH views of the numbers!

Ok I will update his BG at 8 pm...my head is still spinning from doing something wrong with the SS...:confused:Thanks for bearing with me on this I thot I was losing it this time!
