I checked Caseys BG at 5 am and it was 12.7... I fed him then gave him his shot...30 minutes later he threw up his food so I gave him some more wet food.. He just threw up again tho not much vomit...I checked his bg it was at 5.8 ....from what I've just been reading this is in the normal range?...worried about the barfing.:arghh::bookworm::eek:

We need to nail down times here: was his shot given at/around 5:30 AM after a preshot BG number of 12.7? Did this recent BG test happen about 3.5 hours after his shot? Please post ASAP.

BTW- that was really good PS and this recent BG is very good but it's early in the cycle. Remind me - Caninsulin? ProZinc?

I gave him his shot at 5 am... and I just took the 5.8 reading about 10 minutes ago...he is on Caninsulin

Since we are all in different time zones it is better to state readings as +2 or +3 or whatever number of hours after the shot. I believe you are at 9:30 AM right now . If that is correct then that reading would be +4.5 hours since the shot??? Is this right??

yes thats correct

Can you clarify times with +hours after shot we are at now? So we don't get confused with time zones, so if you gave shot at 05:00 your time (EST) then we're at +4.25 since 1.0U of Caninsulin administered on AMPS of 12.7

Thank you for the information.

Since it is still the early part of the cycle and he may not have hot his nadir.. I would give a bit of MC food and test again in 20 minutes. That is a big drop. The number is still in the safish zone...I believe you are using the Alpha Trak meter??? but you don't want it to drop any more.

To do list for later:
  1. Set up your signature (the grey text you see under our posts) by going to your name in the upper right of this page, clicking on signature and filling in the box that appears. Use one of ours as a guide. This is so we have key info right there to see.
  2. Set up your spreadsheet so we have ready reference to all your BG data when you ask for help. People here can do it for you if needed.

OK. That's a +4 BG reading. He might or might not have a nadir around +4 to +6. Try feeding a VERY small amount of low carb food - maybe a tsp. I hope he keeps it down. Is he new to the food he's getting right now? Retest in 20 minutes after the food.

he has been eating this wet food for several days now

Kris if she is using the AT2 meter I would suggest MC at this time. If it is the human meter then the LC should be fine.

We need to get some information in the signature later on, once this is dealt with

I think it's a human meter. There was discussion of meters a day or two ago.

Using the MediSure human meter....I initially gave him 1/2 6 oz can of food which he seems to eat at the same rate as my younnger cats.

Friskies or other? A different flavour this AM? We might not know what caused the vomiting. Does he get hair balls?

Friskies...Sea captains choice which he normally likes. I havent seen him throw up a hairball but up to lately he was inside outside cat,tho mainly inside.

Curious Delores, when was his last meal before the breakfast he threw up? Since he's still wanting to eat, I do slightly wonder if it was because of an empty tummy.
I know we're still taking action with the 5.8 he gave you at the +4.25 mark and waiting that 20 minutes, which seems to go by very slowly in these situations

his last meal before breakfast at 5 am was last night at 5 pm.

I was freaking out so I gave him a tblspoon of the dry. My brain is so not registering how to do the spreadsheet at the moment..okay NOT going to panic..im sure this will pass:confused::banghead: Should I recheck in another 20 minutes?

It's OK, Delores. You have help here. :) Yes, test again in 20 minutes. The dry might be a bit slower to kick in but it'll help. Just think of all the testing practice you're getting ... ;)

What kind of dry food? That will take about an hour to work. Don't panic with the spreadsheet right now. I know I gave you the links before on your other thread but you mentioned printing them. I can help you set that up after Casey is in the clear. Yes re-check in 20 minutes, try to give 1T of wet food though. :)

you are probably hitting nadir right about now, so I wouldn't panic. The food you gave should do the trick. It's not in hypo numbers, it's ok. :) Next cycle reduce the dose a bit. PLEASE work on a spreadsheet though, because it will help us SO MUCH in giving dosing advice. what was his dose this morning?

Ergh I just stepped in his second barfing episode...:confused:I didnt see it cos didnt have glasses on and it blended with part of the carpet....so he didnt absorb much food apparently this morning poor guy:(
