Can someone take a peek at Little Roo's numbers (plus couple questions)

Meow!! Happy Friday!

Could someone please maybe take a peek at Little Roo's spreadsheet and numbers? I think we're going in the right direction so far. I also think lowering Roo's dose from 1 unit down to 0.5 unit is keeping her fairly more stable (for now) and less worry with hypo and/or bouncing. Thoughts?

I also want to do a curve, my first. I wanted to do it tomorrow but have to work now (usually have off.) But I will try on Sunday. Is there anything written here about doing a curve (advice/instructions) that I can take a look at? I think I pretty much have the idea but always good to make sure! This disease is all about educating yourself and researching a LOT, that's for sure!

Happy to report I ordered and will receive the 1/2 unit marked syringes now too. I went on the ADW site and ordered/then added in my vet's info. Thinking my vet must have gotten a call and approved? Because ADW told me it shipped!

I also want to ask (hope it's not too stupid a question,) but: I can use the U40 1/2 unit marked syringes with ProZinc safely, right? Maybe my vet planted a seed in my head about specifically using the syringes he gave me, I don't know... but I just wanted to make sure!

A curve is just a serious of test either every 2 hours for 12 hours (a cycle) or every 3 hours over 18 hours. Maybe add notes on when she ate and how much. Otherwise the goal is to see how the insulin is working with her normal activity - easy right!

Great on the syringes - do you need a script to get syringes?

Little Roo likes to clear her bounces fast doesn't she!
 
Looks like Little Roo is doing MUCH better on 0.5 units! It's definitely keeping her more stable and I'm sure she feels better without wild swings.

A curve would be great...give you a good look at what is happening throughout a cycle. I'd love to see what it looks like if you get one this weekend!

You should be able to use the syringes with ProZinc. If you post a link to the ones you ordered here, we can take a look to be sure if you'd like!
 
Little Roo is doing very nice! And Yes as long as they're U-40 syringes, your Vet should know the only difference is they have half unit markings ;)

I live in New York (Long Island) so when I tried to order the syringes it said I needed a prescription. ADW's website said to add in my vets information and contact. I am assuming ADW must have contacted him and he approved! :)

Roo is a tough little girl, lol, that's for sure! :)

I use Adwdiabetes.com... They are fast about contacting the vet. Good site. I like 3/10 (0.3)ml u40 with 1/2 unit markings.... They are easier to see than the 0.5 ml ones.
 
Just looked at the spreadsheet. 0.5 is better than the 1, but might need just a LITTLE more to push him down to the low blues and high greens. You want to aim for around 85 - 90 for the nadir. Can you try to dose 0.75u? Just a smidgen less then 1?

I am doing my first curve with Little Roo tomorrow (today -Sunday 7/23). I was thinking (0.75u) that too! I might stay with 0.5 Units tomorrow just for the curve until I get my new 1/2 unit marked syringes. I thought they would be here today (Saturday) as I had them shipped priority but they'll prob be here Monday now. I'll see how she does tomorrow (and with her curve) and see about an adjustment to 0.75 right after! Thank you for great advice!! I'd love nothing more than to see low blues and high greens!! Wondering what her nadir will be..

On another note, Saturday morning, Little Roo lost a tooth!! My poor girl - if this disease wasn't enough! She seems okay now although she is def going to have to get a dental asap now. Vet closed early today and I had to work so couldn't even get her there. I felt so terrible for her! If it isn't one thing, it's another :banghead: :(. Made me cry.

Being Roo has diabetes, is there a connection/correlation with that and a cat's teeth? And now I have to worry about her having to eat before her shoot - and not allowed to eat because she will have to be sedated for any dental work. How would that work? This little sugar girl sure has mom's stress levels elevated and on high alert.

Any infection, inflammation or pain can raise the BG numbers, so yes, if there's dental disease, it could be effecting her numbers

Generally, on the morning of the dental, you'll skip the insulin or only give a token dose....Your vet will have a protocol they will want you to use. Some vets say "no shot" in the morning, and some will say to feed a small amount and give a small dose.

I've heard there is a connection. I'm assuming extra sugar in the blood + teeth are not a good combo. My CC just had a dental on Friday to have a tooth pulled and I learned she's missing several teeth in the back due to reabsorbing! I had never even heard of this before!!! I had no idea she was even missing teeth. for most of her life she had beautiful white teeth so I had no idea!

I just went through this with Maury's last visit :woot:. Many kitties through my life and not once did I ever hear of resorption haha. I thought one of his missing incisors was from an accident :confused:. Vet did say big cats do it too; Tigers, Lions, and Leopards (oh my!) etc. :D I know the last is bears but we're talking kitties :cat:

Okay, thank you!! Wondering if dental disease could affect her numbers! Wondering if getting a dental will help too.

I've heard that too! Awww poor CC! I think Roo will have to have to have some teeth removed and a cleaning. She has pretty stinky breath. The vet mentioned in the spring (before I knew she had diabetes) that she'd have to get some dental work done soon.

I have never heard of that (resorption) either! Looks like we're headed for a dental this week... wondering if it will help keep her numbers down after some healing!
 
Little Roo & I started our first AlphaTrak2 curve this morning. Not used to seeing such a high number in the AMPS (magenta) at 360 as I usually use the human ReliOn meter but I know those numbers run low anyway..

But she's coming down a bit down so that's good. 3 more to go! Wish I could do a 24 hour curve! I would but I have to go to work tomorrow morning. Today was my only day off. Maybe next weekend I can try for a 24 hour curve if I don't have to work. I'll keep testing tonight though - after her PMPS too until I have to go to sleep.

"Sleep" - what is that like? lol.. :rolleyes:
