Hello, my cat was just diagnosed with Diabetes

Hi, my name is Kim. I have been had cats in my house my entire life. This is the first time that I have had to deal with a chronic illness in one of my cats. A couple months ago I had to euthanize my 16 yr old female tuxedo cat due to kidney failure. Yesterday, I got a call from the vet that my 14 yr old male had diabetes. I have been waiting since yesterday morning for the vet's office to call me back and tell me what I have to do, so I have been reading everything I can find on feline diabetes. I am very familiar with Type 1 diabetes in humans, as my father died a few years ago while undergoing a kidney/pancreas transplant.
