Sending tons of good vetty vines and all finger/toes/paws crossed for the bloodwork.
Thanks. :)

I'll update later tonight with the results from the vet visit. Going to get a +4 soon. He has been sleeping all morning, so not expecting much in the way of lower numbers.

Went to get Gizmo for +4 test because he didn't come when I called him, which is very unusual. I found him in our closet with a big pile of throw up beside him. His numbers weren't terrible as I expected, but actually stayed the same (267). I planned on feeding him his +6 snack early, but of course he wanted nothing to do with it because his belly is upset. Hopefully he will be feeling better soon ... at least we are heading to the vet soon.

Gizmo's sugar was 268 at the vets at +6. So pretty flat today. When we got there the receptionist said you are just here for a Glucose check. I said no I want all of his bloodwork redone. So the vet knew nothing about my request to have the IAA and IGF-1 tests. He was in agreement that Gizmo is on a high enough dose of insulin to be insulin resistant, but knew of no tests to tell for sure. He said that the test for acromegaly is very precise in how you handle the blood so he would have to check into all that before doing the bloodwork. Based on my constipation concerns, he wanted to do bloodwork and recheck his values compared to where we started at. That's one of the reasons we went anyways, so I agreed. My poor Gizmo returned with the whole underside of his chin shaved. :( I've never seen them take blood from his neck before. It was discovered that he is running a fever (103.something) and his white blood count was high. So they asked if they could run the T4 Thyroid test. We agreed. It came back 3.4 which is in the normal range. The vet said that you could actually get a lower result in dogs when they aren't feeling well, but he has never known that to happen with cats. So we think his thyroid is ok. His kidneys, liver, and pancreas values all came back normal. I am now wondering if his pancreas value is normal, wouldn't that mean it is working? The vet is going to check into the test for acromegaly. Actually, I think I am going to email him the information on both tests tonight. He also prescribed an antibiotic: zenequin 25mg - half a tablet once a day for 14 days. He seemed slightly concerned that Gizmo lost a little weight. He is 13.63 pounds ... down from 13.8. He said to let him eat as much as he will eat. Not sure about that as Gizmo normally will eat a lot, but will probably start giving him a little more.

Looking for any advice on feeding and the test results .... thanks.

Glad the vet visit went ok and report sounds good except for infection. Where are you located (General area)? Maybe someone can point you in the direction and advise on getting the tests done in the area.

How is his tummy now? Could have just been stress from the vet visit (fingers crossed).

We live in pa. I don't think my vet is against doing the tests, just didn't want to take the blood without knowing the requirements of how to send/store the blood. He definitely seemed to think there was an issue for him needing such high doses of insulin. However, didn't even mention anything about how he got to 7.5 units. :)

The tummy issues were before the vet appointment. He acted like he was starved when we returned home and ate just fine. Food has stayed down so far.

PMPS = 275 (forgot to post this)

Gizmo only ate about half his food at shot time tonight. Hoping he starts feeling better soon. Going to keep a very close eye on him in case the infection has been the cause of higher numbers all along. He has been on antibiotics 3 times (for short periods) since his diagnosis back in Feb. wondering now if the infection has never really cleared up.

Can you enter his lab results on the lab tab on the SS, please? Lab results should be looked at in their entirety instead of a test here and there. For instance, mild elevations in liver enzymes can be due to hyperthyroidism.

I'd be happy to look at them for you if you let me know when they are loaded. Your vet should always give you a copy of the complete lab results.

I am not sure that I agree with your vet about the T4. For a cat above ten years old, his T4 is in the gray range. You might want to read this clinician's brief. The 15 year old kitty described had a tT4 of 3.1 and further testing indicated he was hyperT. I've also had this happen in a kitty of mine where she has the symptoms but the tT4 was in the gray range and further testing indicated she was hyperT.

Just tag me....I'll check back in. :)
