Hello thanks for the add... my cat Fatty was diagnosed early June 2017, has been on Lantus 3uu twice daily. In the last week he has been bouncing from 4.5 up to 14 or so, 3 times so far, and due to inexperience I have just realised he should have had his dose slightly decreased....I will see if I can get his ss up for you, I can add all his numbers so far. His bouncing only started when his diet was changed to wet fancy feast low carb flavours. He has no other health issues atm, he is 12 yrs old and eats like crazy!!
I have to admit the 3 times his numbers have been very low at injection time I have not given him his dose. I dont know whether this was right or not but with the worry of him possibly bottoming out I just couldnt do it! I work 3 days a week so I cant keep watch.
In conclusion: Fatty, desexed male SH 12 yrs diabetic since early June 2017 on Lantus 2 x daily, fancy feast wet low carb, home BG monitoring, am interested in the SL,GS method.

I see you posted for the spreadsheet already. Changing to a low carb wet food can change the numbers dramatically. So yeah for home testing and I am sure once you have it up and running the fine folks here can help you out.

And yes when first starting out - you shouldn't shoot below 200. The members here can help guide you on when to shoot lower and then support you through the process. Took me awhile to get used to it.

Welcome to the group! This is quite possibly the best place you never wanted to be.

It would be very helpful if you could set up a spreadsheet so you can keep track of Fatty's progress and it will also allow us to see his numbers and make better informed suggestions. The instructions for setting up a spreadsheet and linking it in your signature can be found here. There is also a wealth of helpful information in the sticky notes at the top of the board.

I would encourage you to be very attentive to getting test data. Many cats insulin needs rapidly decrease when you change the kitty over to a low carb diet.

Please let us know if you have questions. The people here are very generous with their time and knowledge. And, we love questions!

Hello Kerry and welcome. I think you are at the right place for help and as soon as you have the spread sheet up, I am sure you will get a lot of suggestions. You seem very prepared already, the bouncing could be related to the change in to LC wet food, which i heard from others here have happened to their kitty, as there numbers went low quickly or lower than they are used to which triggered a bounce.

ok 2 questions... the signature box wont let me type in it to add info...also once the SS is downloaded where do I go to open it? Sorry im a bit computer illiterate...

Me neither before this. Go to the web and put in google drive - it will pull up the website. You are looking for My Drive. You may have to log in the first time.

I then made that a favourite so it just pulls up on my favourite bar and I can click it and not have to go through the search process again.

go to google site for your country: google.com

Click on the block icon on the right

Then Click on Google drive option

Goggle Drive site should look like this for you but empty :) Hope this helps

Excellent idea! i have added it to my favourites too!

Welcome! I just have to comment on your cat's name Fatty. My sugar kitty is Rex, but his nickname is Fatty. ;)

Hello! My cats name is actually Horse (from Footrot Flats) but he usually gets fatty or stupid...but hes niether fat or stupid. Hes very sweet but a large size, almost 7 kilos. The kids always called him Fatty, so now its stuck!

Hmmm I will try as a new user and see if the steps are different for the signature. Just in case what browser do you use? Chrome or Internet Explorer?
I tried as a new user and it worked for me. The only thing I can think of is, did you get the confirmation email when you joined the site? If yes, did you click on the link in the email to confirm the account? If yes to both, could be a problem with you browser or, what usually works and we all hate to do. Turn your PC off than back on and try again :)

Ok SS done so far....as much of it as I can find...good to note the change in Fattys low carb diet was started approx a week ago? :banghead: Just before all the drops started.....

It's probably a good sign, and you will get the help you need from the folks here. They are great. I am still fairly new and didn't have that issue with mine.

The drops are expected if you changed to a LC diet. Just another reason why we're big advocate's of home testing :). Not sure why you can't type in Signature box o_O. Might be a new member thing? Try it again tomorrow, we'll want to see that SS

Mmmm, tried restarting the computer but it still wont let me enter any text........wonder if I will need to leave the group and rejoin?? But then will I lose the SS?

The SS is on google docs, so you should be good. Just try and create another profile with a different name and see what happens. If that doesn't work let me know what browser you have and I will give you instructions to clear your browser cookies, temp information that can sometime cause weird problems with internet applications.

I did in fact bugger up the link to the SS, so it reads the whole link....not too sure how to rectify that one...o_O
you didn't bugger it up, there is a trick:)

In the signature box where you want to show the link, type in the words you want for the link:
Horse SS

Select the words so they are highlighted

Click on the chain looking icon on the text box header
upload_2017-7-12_1-39-26.png

the system will open a popup wind, paste the url to the spread sheet there and click insert

Looks like Fatty is doing fairly well, you are right about the reduction being required from 3U, and you made the right choice not to shoot on those days where his numbers where fairly low. I wouldn't have reduced a full unit, normally .25 is what is suggested here, so 2.75 would have been good. Dose decrease is earned when BG under 90 mg/dl (5 mmol/l). So are doing well with this, glad you had so much good data. experienced folks here are going to love you:)

(don't go by my kitty SS, as he is on an experimental drug for a condition that impacts diabetes).

Thanks for the info, i was debating on the decrease A LOT figured the food was making a huge impact and opted to try from scratch so to speak....will give him a few days and see how he reacts, go from there.....

He is doing well so that should be good, and yes if you just switched to wet it does make a big difference. Usually hold a dose for 7 days, unless he earns a reduction. So take it slow :)

I will. I found this group last night after conflicting advice from another i was on, and the admins were getting a bit abusive so opted out. This one is much nicer!

Thank you to everyone today who has given advice for fixing my signature and SS, I think I have it all done now...Would someone let me know if it doesnt work?? ;)
