Is it okay to give D-Manose while a cat is on an antibiotic?
Maggie is getting ready to start her second course of amoxicillin for a urinary tract infection. Several on FDMB recommended D-Manose on a regular basis to curb UTIs.
Thanks!

I have used it along with ABs with no apparent ill effects. I never even thought about whether or not it was okay to use it at the same time, lol, but it should have no bearing on the AB that I can think of. Squallie stays on a maintenance dose of d-mannose and has not had any UT problems since we started it! :):)

Yes, I think you can use d-mannose with antibiotics as the actions of each is different and does not interact.
I used d-mannose at high dose and still did not see any positive effect but I have to consider it again as Rocky has relapsing UTI.
Did you have a cystocentesis (urine collection from the bladder) and sensitivity test done to see what bacteria is present? @Alicia Riddle

A cystocentesis was done, but no sensitivity test. I know, I should have had one done. :banghead:
Vet said because she has chronic kidney disease that she will be prone to UTIs in the future, so that's why I was interested in D-Mannose.

Thanks for the links, Larry!

Squallie and one of my civvies each get about 1/8 of a tsp at breakfast and at dinner, mixed into their food. I know the d-mannose is sweet, but I don't think it's the type of sugar that affects BG very much; I know it's never been a problem for Squall, and he is extremely sensitive to anything that might raise his BG!
