Hi there! My girl Audrey was diagnosed several months ago and we're struggling. Vet has her on Vetsulin twice a day. We started out on 4u2x a day. It has since gone up in whole increments to 5,6, and now the vet today has suggested going to 7u twice a day. I feel like this is too much. I don't currently test at home, though I'm very interested in trying. Also, I have 3 cats, one of which has never eaten wet food so I typically have dry food available all day. I think the wet food I'm giving Audrey is probably you high in carbs. Mostly I feed her fancy feast gravy lovers. I'm just seeking an answer to our high glucose problems. Thank you for having us here and for any advice given.

Starting at 4 units was too much. If it were my cat I'd go back to 1 unit, test, and raise gradually by no more than 0.5 units at a time. Often too much insulin can look like not enough. You need to go to the beginning and find the ideal dose. Whoever suggested starting at 4 doesn't know how to dose insulin.

Also if you aren't already doing it I strongly suggest learning how to home test. I did the home test the first six weeks. It wasn't until my vet suggested I go from 1 to 2 units that I got nervous of hypo and finally started testing. That's when I was able to really know what was happening and dose accordingly. I have a video in my signature showing how I test my cat CC.
