My cat Sonny (male age 16) was diagnosed yesterday with diabetes. He is 15 lbs (down 2 lbs from last summer) and asthmatic. I took him in thinking he had a UTI. A level (I wish I could remember what it's called) came back at 360 that she said should be about 100. She said they recommend changing his diet before the next step (shots), then will see him again in a month and go from there.
My question for now is about the list she gave me. She specifically told me to pick from the foods that were shaded. I'm wondering if she meant the other way around? It seems those are the ones with the higher carb amounts and I thought that was what we wanted to avoid?
So far Sonny is doing well with the change (aside from waking me up with nibbles to the face at 6am because he was hungry- free fed kibble all his life). He doesn't seem to eat as much as she thought he would (300 calories), but again it's only been a day and a half. Thanks.
