I see a lot of people are feeding their cats Friskys and or Fancy Feast. My cats (3) are all of dry with occasional . wet. But now that my Rocky has diabetes i am getting him off of dry completely. I been feeding him the rest of our Friskys we had and i bought a small bag of fresh pet. What about Raw food anyone recommend a good brand? I realize now though its not the best since it has spinach and carrots in it (think it uses pea protein too). I feed my non diabetic cats Wellness Complete Adult Health dry food. I have also read that Seafood is not good is this true? And only give pate not gravy or chunks . What brand and flavors do you give? Also for my non diabetic cats whats a good Low Carb dry food? I asked before on another thread but what about how much? His normal along with the other 2 has been 2xs a day about a 1/4 cup . But others have said if hes hungry feed him so i just started feeding him 3xs a day. Thanks in Advance

Two most acceptable dry foods are Young Again Zero and Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Chicken. If you can get all your crew onto a wet food diet, it is best. There are some kitties who are dry food addicts though, so it's a slight balancing act :). Quite a few do home made diets like Dr. Pierson (catinfo.org), I'm not sure about any specific brands of raw food, except maybe Fresh Pet. I think most who feed seafood flavours do like once a week. My brain is blanking on the vitamin...:joyful::bookworm:.

There are a few non-pate low carb foods, I think someone gave you the link to this Food Chart. Ideally aim to keep below 10% carbs.

I stick with Friskies and Fancy Feast mostly. Recently found a Purina LC food that he likes though :cat:

I've given the following links before but in case you lost them, here they are again ;):

What is this dr. Elseys you speak of?!

Yeah, some said it was less expensive than YAZ but maybe that's if you buy the big bag. If I'm spending $47 on a bag, I'll take the 8lb bag of YA over 6.6lb of Dr.E
I wonder how long 8lbs of YAZ would last 2 kitties. We feed our non diabetic what ever angel has to eat. If we didn't have him we would solely feed wet food but he won't touch the stuff so he has to eat what's acceptable for her even tho she doesn't eat a whole lot of kibble.

I read somewhere that its good if it has liver and or giblets. ? Is that correct does fris or ff have those flavors? Guess ill go check it out today..
Oh nvm i had that backwards sorry. Liver and other parts should only be sometimes just like seafood. What about treats? Are they a complete no no?

I found this on diabeticcatcare.com it doesn't give you the protein. The chopped grill and tender beef and chicken are the least %

Hmm on Dr. Pierson's food chart, the highest pate (classic) carb % is like 3%. I'd stick with her chart. She takes the time to call each company to obtain "As-fed" values. Not sure where the other site is getting their information.

My guy is under weight 7.5 lbs he should be at least 10-12. Is there a benifit of feeding him ff kitten? I know they make a turkey pate one. Thought maybe it have a lil more calories but still be less carb and high protein.

I doubt they called the company and got the as fed values like Dr. p did. They probably used a carb calculator program and just went by what was on the lable.

I think that as long as you choose a variety that is under 10% carbs it would be ok but most kitten are more higher.

Getting him back on his weight may take time you don't want to mess up his diabetes with high carb food

8 lb bag gets me 7-8 days with 7 cats but the first bag lasted me about 5-6 days until they got used to the higher protein/ lower carb feeling full longer YA Zero dry now i get 7-8 days sometimes 9 per 8 lb bag
