After posting 3 days ago about being in a rut, I do the unthinkable. I miss (fur shots) twice in the evenings.
She is back in those horrid pinks and I feel like the worst person in her world. She didn't come down at all today and I'm really worried. Should I increase to 1.5 tonight? Or? Coincidence that insulin is no good any more (long shot as I have to end of July for 6 months)?
I am beside myself with guilt, any advice please? Should she not have started to come down instead of going up by now?

Thank you and Happy 4th of July!

Fur shots happen to all of us from time to time. :( Remember that with Lantus there is stored insulin in the depot that is being used so the kitty doesn't go too high. The numbers might be high again tonight and perhaps tomorrow while the depot fills up but they will come back down again. Try not to worry too much.

In looking at your ss, I see that you are having trouble with the marking on the needles being inaccurate so that you may or may not be giving a consistent dose... Lantus is an insulin that works best with consistent dosing so the measurement is vital. We use digital calipers to measure the doses which gives us such peace of mind about the accuracy of our treatment. If you want to learn how to do it, let me know and I can send you the links.

Yes please Jan. The syringes have been horrible lately. I have looked for small calipers and if anyone in Canada knows where to find them, please let me know.
I just feel horrible that she feels so horrible. :(

Thank you so much,
Sandy

The impact of a fur shot can be seen in later cycles. Since this dose got her below 150, hold the dose as per SLGS and wait for the depot to rebuild.

The BD syringes were horrible for consistency. Neko's last dose was well under the zero line but I estimated was more like0.25 units. I used calipers my DH got at his favourite metal/woodworking tool store. Not sure if you have a KMS tools where you live. I have even seen some in Canadian Tire, though more expensive there. You can also search for digital calipers on Amazon.ca, and look for ones that lock in the size. Most do except the really cheap ones. A little less than $30 should get you a good one.

After suffering with the BD syringes actually leaking from the top, I got fed up. I'm trying the Walgreens special. Cost $4 more, but the markings are easier to read. I do think calipers might be a better idea though.

Unfortunately, in Canada our choice is BD or BD. If you are lucky, some pharmacies will get in the Monojects.

No KMS tools. :( Am I looking for 4 inch? 6 inch? Digital for sure eh? I will check Amazon as soon as I know exactly what I am looking for. If Crappy Tire has em, I don't care if it costs more, I just want to know exactly what to get.
Pray I got her well enough with the moving and stupid syringes. Thank you everyone!!!!!!

4 inch calipers are big enough - unless your kitty is on a REALLY big dose. :p But 6 inch are OK too. You want some that read at least two digits after the decimal place, preferably in mm.

If not KMS Tools, other tool stores carry them too (Busy Bee is one). Just google metalworking or woodworking tool store in your area. Here is the Crappy Tire one. The little arms at the top are really fat on that one, which makes it hard to use with the lip on the BD's. If you can find one with skinny arms, that is better. This option at Amazon would work. This one is like mine, but the cost was about half that price in the store.

Thank you Wendy for helping with the information about measuring with calipers. :) I know that "somewhere" on FDMB there is information about how to measure a dose with calipers.... but I can't find it. Perhaps you know where it is and can provide some additional information for Sandy. Thanks.

Please don't beat yourself up on the FS. It happens to even the most experience CG. It seems like when I did them they were in a row....... so frustrating.
