Hi, I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, I speak French but I will explain as much as possible in English the story of Valentin . Valentin is 17 years old, he is a beautiful and happy cat, he has already a problem with his kidneys and he has been diagnosed with diabete in May and started receiving insulin afterwards, after doing the glucose blood tests at home and giving him insulin twice a day, on June 19th he did not need anymore insulin, today is the 12th day without insulin, usually his glucose is between 5 and 8 or 9 but this morning his glucose was 10.3 and 3 hours later was at 11.7 and another 3 hours later went back to 9 . I am worried that he is not totally in remission but I guess I have to wait and see. I need to know if there is a canned food that is good for both problems kidney and diabete.

Welcome to FDMB Gigi and Valentin.

Congratulations! Sounds like Valentin has been doing very well and I would just keep checking his BG to be sure he's not gradually falling out of remission. The elevated numbers today could have been a bit of stress from noise outside or another animal he was viewing through a window. Lots of things can cause a short term rise in BG. Unless his BG goes up and stays up, I wouldn't worry too much. Fingers crossed this was a one time occurrence.:)

This food listing has information on both carb percentages and phosphorus and should help you find something ideal for Valentin to deal with both his health issues. Keeping carbs under 10% is key.

Bienvenue from Ontario. Come on over and post your questions and concerns in the Health Forum. A number of us have experience in balancing kidney disease and diabetes. There are also a few people from Quebec.

Thank you for your encouragement, this morning the result of his test was very good 6.5, I will look into the infos that you gave me for the food, I need food that will be good for both illnesses: kidney disease and diabete, so not too much protein and low carb. I will go to the health forum and inquire about that.

Je l'espère aussi, aujourd'hui c'était plus rassurant ce matin son résultat était 6.5, c'est son 13e jour de rémission.
Je vais aller sur le Health Forum et demander des informations sur la nourriture pour chat diabétique souffrant aussi
de problèmes rénaux. Merci pour l'encouragement.

Merci. I will go to the Health Forum, I need to find the appropriate canned food to give to Valentin for both diabete and kidney problems.

Mon nom est Mélanie et j'habite à Gatineau. Mon chat Noah est également diabétique. N'hésite pas à m'écrire si je peux t'aider avec quoi que ce soit! J'espère que la rémission continuera pour Valentin.

Melanie, it's wonderful that you are able to help Gigi and communicate in French but for those who don't it would be helpful if you could provide a translation of any French communications just so every one has benefit of knowing what been said should Gigi need help when you are not available.:)
For now I am going to take a shot with my very rusty high school French so please do not hesitate to correct me if I am wrong in any way.

That's exactly it! :)

I'll make sure to translate everything in the future in case I'm not here. I should do OK since I'm a translator, but I work mainly in the medical field so please feel free to correct my mistakes (syntax and grammar is always tricky for me). I'm so used to thinking in French!
 
Thanks Melanie. Good to know I can still read French and get the general gist. Like you syntax and grammar are puzzling. I learned Parisian French and it's not exactly the same either. ;)

Valentin en est à sa 13e journée sans insuline, même si hier j'ai eu un peu peur car ses tests démontraient des valeurs plus élevées, tout semble s'être replacé aujourd'hui. Je voudrais que cela reste ainsi mais il a aussi des problèmes rénaux et la nourriture suggérée par le vétérinaire en est une pour les problèmes rénaux, et contient plus d'hydrates de carbone que le pourcentage de 10% suggéré pour un chat diabétique ; je tente de trouver une nourriture qui serait pour un chat qui souffre à la fois de problèmes rénaux et de problèmes de diabète.

Thank you to everybody who is trying to help me, I just explained in French to Mélanie the problem I have with Valentin having a renal problem as well as being a diabetic cat and the food I am trying to find to address those two conditions.
