I was wondering the same since this was potentially steroid induced diabetes. I noticed how HC food didn't do much. I'm glad you three confirmed my thoughts.
The possibility of steroid induced is only part of the picture we're looking at. The other part is initially Mouzer was over dosed. When a cat is over dosed in the beginning, sometimes it results in for lack of a better term... "kick starting" the pancreas. It's similar to the phenomenon we see when a cat's insulin needs are greatly reduced or even exogenous insulin becoming unnecessary after a full blown hypo. It's rare, but it happens.

If the vet did not do the od - is it possible Mouzer could have been doing better already?

Truth be told, he may not be doing as well as he is now... "if" Mouzer was still alive today. However, to start a cat out on a higher than necessary dose was, in my opinion, dangerous and unnecessary. Thankfully, Mouzer's body took care of itself. It's probably why he survived those higher doses. I shudder to think of what could have happened...

I am glad Mouzer is in good hands now!! Except my not knowing what to tell a vet to do for his stomatitis - they all know everything and wont listen to anything from me, because I do not have the 'degree'.

Mouzer's FD is definitely a very interesting case. I'm following and cheering you on!

I find all of your kitties interesting cases because I dont know anything lol So, all so interesting to learn :)

I know nothing about how to treat stomatitis except what I've heard from others: a full mouth extraction usually helps, but there's no guarantees and the use of SEB for mouth ulcers like Lizzie mentioned above in post #49. I'm hoping others with experience will chime in...

I also don't know about treating stomatitis, other than full extraction, but I do know they can test for it to be sure that's what it is.

I like to use flower essences when I can. I have no idea if Immune Support from Green Hope Farms will help but stomatitis is an auto immune disease. I've had good luck with these essences from this particular company but you also have to be open to the fact that there is healing energy in flower essences. I find that, typically, flower essences work best as part of an holistic strategy which might include a few modalities.

I am open! I have tried quite a few natural remedy's but so far they havent worked, but that doesnt mean there isnt something that will work. It is the vets that will not listen to any such type of things for stomatitis and now, two have told me there is no way to test for stomatitis and all we can do is see by the constant inflammation and troubles it causes with pain and eating. OK - I need to move to a whole new world where vets might know what they are talking about!! The vet I have now, does say it is an auto immune disease but she is treating it with a cocktail of her own - depo medrol, B12 and some other stuff - still the depo is in there and she insist a cat can have depo for their entire lives and it will cause no harm. The other vet said it is not an auto immune disease, it is a case of nasty gums, but he does say depo can cause diabetes.

Yes and at 2 hours before plan of shot, I tried to give him a tsp of lc and he walked away from it.
I dont know if I should try now, so soon before shot? Or let it be?
At this point, I'd let him be. If you do shoot, you'll want him hungry at shot time.
Although, let's see if he's even high enough for you to shoot comfortably at shot time... keeping in my mind that you have to get some sleep.

I am not sure what to choose as a comfy number, because I dont know what a 0.5 will do. Do you think 120 is high enough to feel I might get to sleep?
Or should I pick 130, under the circumstances? LOL I know I am asking a question nobody can be sure of :D

I wish I could tell you with certainty, Cherryl, but the truth is no one knows. I might guess at about 160 or 180, but there's no guarantees. Mouzer isn't playing this game by the rules. All I can share is my thought process if I were in your shoes...

  • if I knew I could not stay up and had to sleep sooner than later, I'd skip the shot and go to bed (only you know how tired you are and your limits)
  • if I thought I could monitor if I had to, but preferred not to I'd probably not shoot unless he was over 180 (given recent history/data).
  • if i were superwoman and could stay awake 24/7 and function well I'd shoot as long as he was over 130.
Ok, there's my thoughts. Your turn to think about it. :)

Oh! I will go with the 180 then! I am not superwoman lol And Mouzer just beat the poo out of me last night and really the past few days, because I never did get any good sleep in. I hate to think I do this with 180 and he goes sky high but at the same time, I really need sleep and I have a rather full day ahead tomorrow. I was just sitting here talking with my husband about it and telling him I have no idea what to do ... But ok, I wont feel bad about holding out for a 180 and if not that high, I skip again and start the 0.5 in the morning lolol unless he did some crazy thing and didnt even get to 180 by then :D

Cherryl, there's only one way to make sure you get a good night's sleep tonight and that's to skip the shot. If you want/need to skip, it's ok. If he goes sky high by morning, so be it. He'll come back down. I don't want to discourage you from shooting, but you have to take care of yourself because if you're not bright-eyed and bushy tailed who will take care of Mouzer? :)

Do what you need to do. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Thank you for that! That helps me feel better. I dont think he will rise to 180 but I am going to check, just in case haha
But I feel better about having to skip if he doesnt rise up. I was worried I would mess him up where he would rise way high and then messed up we couldnt fix him again but if we think we can fix him again, I feel much better!

Hey, what goes up must come down... and so will Mouzer. :D
See where he is at 6pm your time.
If you don't shoot, enjoy your evening and then don't test him again until right before you go to bed (just to see where he's at). Set your AM shot time for whatever time is convenient for you.

I thank you and Mouzer's ear thank you. We both need a break. I am keeping neosporin with pain relief on his ear. He is being very sensitive about his ear since all of this poking going on. OK - We get some sleep and Mouzer is resting too. You all have a good night! If I am not able to get here, in the morning, I will post the morning whatever takes place, as soon as I get a chance. Thank you for all of your help and for everything!! I will get a bedtime test but maybe not post til morning, depending if laptop is still out.

I need to get to bed. It is some after 8pm est - Mouzer is sleeping and is very sleepy. He hasnt wanted to get up and eat and just wants to sleep. He seems ok. I make him wake up and communicate with me through his eyes and making sure he is alert but he wants me to leave him alone and I understand that. I figure, he doesnt care to eat, that might help him ride blue for longer in the night, so his amps might not get so high OR he plans to stay blue or even go green again hahaha
We see what Mouzer can do now LOL He is showin off heehee
Oh! And I ended up finding, from Mouzer's +11 51 ear episode, hahaha I have blood all over my shorts hahaha
Ok I need to get to bed but I thought you all would like to see how he ended up before I headed to bed, so I got on here to do that.
Good night, bless you all for your everything, thank you, again - and all that many times over!!

I wouldn't be surprised if he's simply tired of you poking him all the time, but if what you've described should become "he's not feeling well", please let us know.

Hope both of you get a good night's sleep!

Interesting times in this condo. Sleep well tonight.

Serryn's Vyktor had stomatitis. @Vyktors Mum isn't on much, but you could search some of her posts for stomatitis. He was taking SEB with chamomile. She did find out chamomile was a blood thinner, just before a scheduled surgery. As usual, best run by the vet first.

Is that to mean the blood thinner was a bad thing for kitty?
Thank you for stopping over with that info. I will look around for this, after today.

I know! I wasnt expecting this lol
I need to tell @Marje and Gracie, I think she might have fixed my cat ahahahahaaha
I could only wish this was a normal for him and no more shots ever needed!
I do have another stomatitis kitty, who is in far worse shape with stomatitis, than Mouzer is.
He gets depo medrol shots, monthly and has since 2014- his normal bg is 150 - so maybe these are Mouzer's normal numbers.
The vet said, ECID - so maybe Mouzer didnt handle the two depo shots, in a way this other kitty has handled many.
How many days is the wait on this, to decide they are off the juice?

Yep. She is one of the resident angles. We have so many here that have helped me and Gizmo. Marie babysat me through shooting my first green. I trust her with Gizmo completely.

I am trusting all of these ladies who have sat in with this for Mouzer.
I like how they work together, discussing and making decisions.
It is like a board of doctors - who actually have brains!!

Awe..that is sweet of you to say hello. :) I just didn't post today which is probably why you couldn't find my thread. :cat:

Well, Lizzie came to my thread and you came over - and some others - So, I have ran into some nice people and thought to check on their kitties but I couldnt find you to check on your kitty, except to look at the SS - I wanted to say hi to you, I hope all is well for you and your kitty, and I will look for post from you, so to keep up some times. Thanks for coming back over!!
