Misha's BG levels remain good, but he's driving me nuts with pleas for attention late at night and early in the morning. He doesn't appear to be hungry or uncomfortable (no more sneezing that I've noticed)--just very worked up. Should I be testing him when he's acting that way--could it somehow be diabetes-related? Or does that just sound like "cats are weird" behavior?

Has he had bloodwork done? I wonder if it could be thyroid-related. My cat Tanner did that before he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Even though he was treated for it, he still has the same behaviors so it's just his thing to do, I guess.

Hmm...he had a full work-up when he was diagnosed back in March (at which point the diabetes was the only abnormla thing), but nothing since then. Are there other common signs? I will have to research this--thank you for the suggestion!

Look to see if the T4 test was run on that. Hyperthyroidism symptoms are: eating more, but losing weight, meowing more, fur not in good shape, seeking cool spaces because body is operating on high, etc.

And I didn't do what I came on to do! Here it is ...

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I will check! He's definitely not losing weight now that the diabetes is under control (in fact, I need to stop him from gaining any more...he's passed the weight he was at before he got sick), but his fur isn't great, and the meowing is over the top. Thanks!

Maybe he misses the extra attention he got when you were testing more.

Happy Day 8!

I am laughing. I am happy for you and your kitty but laughing at how OTJ 50's is not something to freak out about hahaha
And here I freak out with the insulin and getting to 60 :D

He got a 47 at one point and I was super-worried--thank goodness for all the knowledgeable people here who were able to explain why I should stop freaking out :p It makes me really happy now to see those numbers in the 50's!

The thyroid test is generally not included when a "full" blood workup is done, unless it is specifically requested. If you don't see it on your paperwork, it might be worthwhile getting it done. Hyperthyroidism is very common in older cats.
