I used to shoot George while he had his head in the bowl, most times he never looked up, having him distracted by his fuds generally worked well for us.

Is he just not sitting still for the shot? or is he pullling away?
Occasionally when I shot George I'd catch a bit of muscle, and that seemed to cause him some discomfort. I found that I needed to be sure to tent the skin properly for that not to happen. Also making sure the bevel is facing up helps the needle slide in more easily, if it's facing down it can pinch a bit.

I think I am hitting muscle. I tried when eating, but that just made him mad. He doesn't like to be disturbed when eating I guess. He comes when called for his shot and lays down. Most of the time he doesn't notice the needle or me putting the insulin in. But sometimes like the past two days, he flinches when I insert the needle and "shivers" his skin when I begin to put the insulin in.

I did know about the bevel facing up so that's not the problem. :)
 
Try to really 'tent' the skin to be sure that you don't get the muscle, I found that when I did that it helped

If it continues, I might wonder if he is experiencing a bit of a sting from the lantus itself??? I never had a problem that I noticed with George, but apparently it can sting(lantus is acidic) at the higher doses it's more noticeable, it's why many who are on high doses swap to Lev, not that Gizmo is on a high dose. See how you go with it.
 
Hey there. Sometimes when I gave Bubba his insulin, he flinched also and jerked away. It wasn't until I started tenting the skin higher and putting the needle at the very base of the tent. That seemed to stop the flinching.

I am going to revisit some videos about giving the shot to double check my technique. I will try tenting the skin higher.

I actually found that video earlier and really liked it. I was finally able see what I needed to do. Unfortunately, I found out I have been injecting his insulin wrong the entire time. I was making the tent, but injecting into the sides instead of actual tent. I'm assuming that has been the problem. So hopefully things will get better now.
 
I read somewhere about moderate carb food and high carb food, but I can't find that information anymore. The info mentioned the percentage for mod carb and the percentage for high carbs. I purchased some food that I thought was higher carbs (it has gravy). When I checked the charts, it is around 13-15% carbs. Will this work or should I get some higher carb food?

Carb % according to Slang Dictionary

HC - High carb canned food (usually 16 - 24% carbs, depending on the cat)
MC – Medium carb food (usually 11 - 15% carbs, depending on the carb sensitivity of the cat)
LC - low carb aka reg canned food (usually 10% carbs or less, depending on the carb sensitivity of the cat)

I use to feed Fancy Feast and I used the "Classics " as my low carb , and the " Roasted" for medium carb and the "Gravy Lovers" for high carb.

Yep, that's a good idea. A tip, when you bring home the MC and HC food, with a sharpie marker, put the carb % on top of the lid so you won't get it mixed up with your low carb food and accidentally feed.
 
Does anyone know if Friskies extra gravy chunky is the same as Friskies Gravy Sensations in the food list? I don't see extra gravy chunky anywhere and I'm trying to figure out the carb content in the event of a hypo.
